It’s Dr. Mukundan and I have an idea.
This TEDtalk by Ann Patchett is so on point. It will be the best 2 minutes that I will have spent today. I have given much thought about my “responsibility in cultivating readers.” As a reader, I found myself jealous of Celeste this weekend as she has embarked on the Beartown trilogy by Fredrik Backmann, which happen to be my favorite books. She is soon going to become friends with Benji, a character who made me a better person; truly he may be my favorite literary character.
Yesterday I completed 29 years in medical practice. As I start my 30th year of practice, I think that it would be wonderful to go beyond sharing what I am reading with parents. I want parents to model reading so that their children, my patients, see them placing a value on literature. As such, I have decided to start a quarterly book that we can talk about when we see each other.
I’ll choose the titles and pick books that I have not read before. This is not assigned reading but hopefully will be lots of fun. With the construction completing at the end of Crestmoor next week, getting to the Green Hills Library will be a breeze. Parnassus books is so close to our office as well.
I’ll post the names of the books in the office as well as on Facebook/instagram.
The first book that I have chosen is “The Correspondent” by Virginia Evans. I’m really looking for are to it, but first I have to finish “These Precious Days” by Ann Patchett!
