Today we joined Mental Health Initiative for their Mental Health & Matcha event!

We moved, sipped matcha, talked about mental health and shared space in community.

Our Executive Director guided the group through a mindfulness experience and created a community anchor pile, where we named some of the stressors we’re carrying and the micro-boundaries we can use to support ourselves through them.

One person shared, “I’m grateful that I’m not alone in feeling this way.”

And that’s the heart of community. None of us are alone in this. There is always help, hope and support available through NAMI.

If you’re in Davidson County, please know that we’re here for you. Always.

Thank you for including us, Mental Health Initiative.

Today, NAMI Davidson County’s Executive Director had the opportunity to present to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Department of Correction staff as part of their Crisis Intervention Training (CIT).

CIT helps equip those working in our communities with greater understanding and practical tools for responding to people experiencing mental health conditions.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to share mental health knowledge, best practices with working with people experiencing mental health conditions and their families and support safer, more informed responses across Davidson County.

Incredibly important work. Thank you for including us.

Today, our Executive Director had the opportunity to speak with the team at Crossroads Pets [Germantown]] Crossroads Cat Cafe in Nashville about recognizing the signs and symptoms of mental health conditions and the warning signs of su***de.

These conversations matter. When we increase awareness, reduce stigma and equip people with the knowledge to recognize when someone may be struggling, we create communities where people feel seen and connected.

Thank you, Crossroads Campus, for inviting us to be part of this important conversation and for your commitment to prioritizing mental wellness among the people you work alongside.

Bebe Moore Campbell was an author, advocate, and co-founder of NAMI who spent her career pushing to break the silence around mental health in Black and other underserved communities. Her legacy reminds us that culture, language, and stigma can make it harder to ask for help — and that talking openly about mental health saves lives.
This month (and every month), we’re recommitting to making sure everyone in Davidson County has a place to turn.

In honor of National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, our Executive Director had the privilege of speaking with a group of incredible single mothers with
about compassion fatigue, self care and the invisible weight so many parents carry every day.

Together, we explored some of theheaviest parenting stressors and the signs of compassion fatigue, while creating space to honor those experiences instead of pushing through them. We also talked about finding “micro boundaries” and simple survival tools that can help make the hardest moments feel a little more manageable.

Before wrapping up, everyone reflected on one simple question:

✨ What can you do today? ✨

The answers were beautifully simple:

- Take an hour to myself
- Go outside
- Dance to a new song

By the end of the day, two of those had already happened. We wEcstatic Dance Nashvilleogether. Also, an invitation to next Sunday was extended because healing doesn’t always require a grand gesture. Sometimes it begins with one small act of caring for yourself.

To every parent carrying more than anyone can see: you deserve rest,Dream Streetsnts that belong just to you. We called to the table that it’s a privilege to find self care. But is important to identify small acts that work for YOU! Thank you to Dream Streets for creating space for these honest conversations and for supporting single mothers in our community every day.

Today, on National Parents Day, we want to recognize every parent, caregiver and guardian who shows up with love and strength, even on the hardest days.

Parenting doesn’t come with a manual, and supporting a loved one living with a mental health condition can often feel overwhelming and isolating. Many families carry these challenges quietly, wondering if anyone else understands. The truth is, you are not alone. Finding support in a community of people with shared experiences can bring comfort, hope and practical tools for the journey ahead.

At NAMI Davidson County, we believe that parents deserve support too. Through our free family support groups, education programs and community, we are here to remind you that healing happens in connection and that no family has to navigate mental health alone.

Thank you to all the parents who continue to advocate, listen, learn and love unconditionally. Your care makes a difference every single day.
