Brandi Gillaspie: Just A Girl Needing A Kidney

Brandi Gillaspie: Just A Girl Needing A Kidney I’m Brandi, a daughter, friend, artist, and a girl in active kidney failure sharing her transplant journey.

This page is a place to follow my story, learn how to become a living donor, and help support me along the way.

I think sometimes transplant recipients feel like we have to add a disclaimer anytime we talk about something hard:

“But I’m grateful.”
“But I know how lucky I am.”
“But I’d do it all over again.”

And all of those things can be true, but they don’t have to erase the hard parts.

You can be endlessly grateful for your donor and your second chance at life and still struggle with medication side effects, changes to your body, fear, frustration, or the reality of life after transplant.

Gratitude doesn’t require silence. And acknowledging the hard things doesn’t make you any less grateful. 💚

Post-transplant life: reapplying SPF like it’s one of my medications. ☀️🧴
Immunosuppressants help protect my kidney, but they also significantly increase my risk of skin cancer, so sun protection is officially part of the routine. 💚 Supergoop!

Five months ago today, someone I may never fully be able to thank gave me a second chance at life.

Every morning, every walk, every laugh, every ordinary day is a reminder of the incredible gift of organ donation.

If sharing my journey encourages even one person to register as an organ donor or start a conversation with their family, it’s worth it.

Forever grateful. 💛

I just keep unlocking transplant side quests! Yesterday definitely kept me on my toes! I’m ok, my team knows what going on and we are looking into it. Hoping it’s something simple, but I wanted to share because it’s the reality of recovery. Sometimes it’s amazing and sometimes it throws you a curveball.

The good, bad and……ugly as a recent kidney transplant recipient. Either way, I’m more thankful than you’ll ever understand!!!

Today’s video is really about one thing: hope. 💚

As a kidney transplant recipient, seeing new medications like tegoprubart being studied gives me so much hope, not necessarily for me, but for future transplant patients.

Hope for more options.
Hope for safer, longer-lasting transplants.
Hope that life after transplant continues to get better.

I’m incredibly thankful for the researchers, doctors, and trial participants helping move transplant medicine forward. Progress like this deserves to be celebrated.

Maybe this won’t change my journey, but it could change someone else’s, and that gives me hope. National Kidney Foundation Donate Life Tennessee Tennessee Kidney Foundation

Four months ago, I received a kidney transplant and a second chance at life.

Today, I'm talking about something that could someday give future transplant recipients even more hope.

It's not FDA approved. It's still being studied. But seeing innovation and research continue to move forward in the transplant world is incredibly exciting.

Because every breakthrough starts with asking:

Can we do better?
