So I don’t usually have to pack my 4.5 year olds lunch because her school provides lunch and snacks but this week she went to dance camp instead so I was packing lunch and snacks everyday! I kind of enjoy doing that though and it was fun! Why I’m sharing though is A) for kid lunch ideas and B) to share an experience that happened while she was there.
✨
She came home from the camp on Monday and said at lunch people got clapped for if they ate all of their food and I didn’t finish all my lunch so didn’t get claps. While I totally get the teachers are trying to get the kids to eat lunch in a certain amount of time and be fueled for dance this message when all of the time can instill having to always finish meals and not listen to their fullness cues!
✨
What we do at home matters with our kids when they hear other messages out in the world all the time. I explained to my daughter that mommy packed lots of food in her lunch box and also on the side just in case for her to have options, snacks, etc. and she didn’t need to eat it all just have enough and what felt good and I clapped for her when I opened her lunch box and saw what was left/eaten.
✨
It’s our job as the adults to provide what food is offered and the kids job to eat how much and of what is served, which I know can be really difficult at times. I don’t always get it right by all means, but am trying and it doesn’t need to be perfect!

Our health is determined by so many different factors and it most certainly isn't a body size or type! Taking a minute to consider why and how you exercise can help determine how your relationship with it might be! Being anxious and highly distressed when your workout routine gets disrupted or something doesn't go to plan is a good indicator that we may need to take a look at your relationship with movement. Being obsessed with exercise and stressing about it is having the opposite effect on your health than we want it to have!
If you feel like you may have an unhealthy relationship with exercise I would encourage you to work with an eating disorder/disordered eating specialist to work through that! It takes time, but it is possible to have a different relationship with it, I promise!

I love showing my daughter what a healthy relationship with exercise looks like. I haven’t always had a health mindset with movement, it’s taken a lot to get there and I’m so grateful. It’s important to me to show her that movement is about joy and strength not punishment. I genuinely love running and getting to do it with her is so fun 💓🏃‍♀️
If you’re struggling with obsessive exercise, over exercise or any unhealthy relationship with exercise there is hope! We’re here to help if you need it!

Protein has been having it's moment for awhile now, but I think fiber needs the spotlight! Most people do not eat enough fiber. Not only does consuming enough dietary fiber help with digestive health it also is strongly linked to preventing chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers like colon cancer. We need enough fiber regularly for these health benefits! Click through these slides for some tips on how to increase your fiber intake and don't forget to drink enough water as you increase fiber!

Wanting to be in a smaller body or lose weight usually means something much deeper! There are so many reasons somebody may want their body to change. Our society makes it very difficult to not have the desire to live in smaller body. However, what diet culture or your eating disorder promises will happen if you lose weight typically isn’t true. Body image and eating disorder thoughts can and usually do get louder and worse. There are ways to improve confidence, feel accepted, feel safe, and work on accepting yourself and body without changing it. It just takes time and doing the work!
