If you’ve heard this during pregnancy, you may have immediately started worrying about a huge baby, a difficult birth, or an induction.

But here’s something important to know: Fetal weight is calculated using measurements taken during an ultrasound, and those measurements are not a perfect prediction of your baby’s actual weight at birth. That’s why it’s called ESTIMATED FETAL WEIGHT duhhhhh

And when induction is being discussed because of suspected fetal size, it’s completely reasonable to ask questions:

•What are the potential benefits and risks of inducing now versus waiting?

the truth is an induction can lead to a cascade of interventions which intern can lead to a C-section, which a lot of people do not want.

•What does the evidence say for my specific situation?

likeeee do you have gestational diabetes? Is your baby diagnosed with fetal macrosomia? stuff like that can bring a bigger picture rather than just saying “big baby let’s induce”
