In many healthy pregnancies, the final weeks of pregnancy are still an important time of growth and development. Babies continue gaining fat stores, strengthening their feeding skills, and their lungs and brains continue maturing right up until birth.

While there are absolutely times when induction is medically necessary and life-saving, not every pregnancy needs to be rushed simply because a calendar date has arrived. Sometimes the safest thing to do is wait, monitor, and trust the process.

Your baby isn’t late. Your baby is still growing, still preparing, and will arrive when the time is right.

At a consult today, a mama shared something that stuck with me: “I don’t want to spend my entire pregnancy preparing for birth and worrying about all the what-ifs. I want to enjoy being pregnant, and truly be thankful for this miracle.”

Somewhere along the way, pregnancy became a checklist:
Birth plans.
Hospital bags.
Registry items.
Classes.
Research.
More research.

Those things have value, but pregnancy isn’t simply nine months of preparing to become a mother. You already are one.

Pregnancy is an invitation to slow down. To be intentional. To marvel at the fact that your body is creating, nourishing, and sustaining life every single day. It truly is a miracle to witness.

Let’s talk about YOUR mucus plug for a sec. The mucus plug is one of those things people hear about in pregnancy like it’s a countdown timer for labor…buttttt you can lose your mucus plug early, it can regenerate, and it doesn’t always mean labor is right around the corner.

There’s a lot of misinformation surrounding VBACs, so let’s break it down:

What is a VBAC?
A VBAC is a vaginal birth after having a previous cesarean birth (c-section).

Can you have one?
Many people are candidates for a VBAC, but it depends on things like your health history, type of prior uterine incision, previous births, spacing between pregnancies, and your provider support. If you don’t have a supportive provider you might need to consider a switch

“Once a c-section, always a c-section” myth or fact?
Myth. Many people go on to have successful VBACs, though it’s important to understand both benefits and risks when deciding what feels right for you.

Benefits often discussed with VBAC:
• Avoiding major abdominal surgery
• Shorter recovery for some families
• Lower risk of some surgical complications in future births
• Feeling empowered after a previous birth experience (for some)

Questions to ask your provider:
• Am I a candidate for VBAC?
• Does this hospital support VBACs?
• What are my individual risks/benefits?
• What policies or monitoring are standard during labor?
• How do we support informed decision-making if plans change?

You deserve evidence-based information, informed consent, and support, whether you choose a VBAC or repeat cesarean. Education over fear, always. 🤍

Postpartum can feel overwhelming for anyone, but for sensory-sensitive parents? The lights feel brighter, the sounds feel louder, the touch can feel like too much, and the constant stimulation of caring for a tiny human can be a lot.

I will always advocate hard for my sensory sensitivity mamas because I know how difficult it can be. For me this looked like:

•trying on diapers & mesh un**es before birth so I can understand if it’s a texture I can handle

•finding “safe” nursing tops and bras

•packing my handy dandy pads i’ve been wearing since my first cycle

•buying reusable nursing pads & testing them before birth

•using beeswax rounds instead of ni**le butter

my list could go on!

Navigating postpartum with sensory needs looks like honoring rest, lowering expectations, asking for support, dimming the lights, wearing the comfy clothes, noise-canceling headphones during contact naps, and remembering that your nervous system deserves care too. You are learning your baby while relearning yourself. Give yourself softness in the process 🤍

We spend so much of pregnancy preparing, reading, planning, organizing, learning coping techniques, packing bags, writing preferences. And preparation matters. But one of the biggest lessons birth teaches is this: control and surrender are not the same thing.

Surrender in birth doesn’t mean “giving up.” It means softening into the process instead of fighting every wave. It means trusting your body enough to meet labor moment by moment, even when things feel uncertain or intense.

You cannot micromanage labor into unfolding exactly as planned. Birth is wild, deeply human, and often unpredictable. But surrender can look like breathing through the contraction instead of bracing against it. Adjusting expectations without losing yourself. Allowing support. Listening inward.

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do in birth is loosen your grip and say: “I can do this, even if it unfolds differently than I imagined.”

Birth didn’t ask for perfect control. It asked for trust, presence, and surrender.

Estimated Due Date (EDD) is one of the most misunderstood parts of pregnancy. It’s a prediction based on a 28-day cycle and statistical averages, not a guarantee of when labor will begin. Most babies arrive between 37–42 weeks, and only a small percentage are actually born on their due date. It’s ESTIMATED for a reason 💗
