Eyes that can’t track smoothly, don’t team properly, or a brain that struggles to process what it’s receiving.
None of this shows up on a standard eye chart.

What rarely gets checked is how the eyes are actually functioning. When your eyes struggle to focus, track, or work together, your brain works overtime to compensate.

If your child uses their finger or a pencil to follow along while reading, that’s not a habit.
That’s a coping mechanism. When eye tracking is off, the eyes can’t smoothly move from word to word on their own.
So the brain finds a workaround: use something physical to hold the place. It looks like a quirk. It’s actually a sign. Struggling with reading might have nothing to do with how clearly your child sees.
20/20 eyesight doesn’t tell you how well the eyes move, how accurately they jump from line to line, or whether they’re losing their place mid-sentence.
Those tiny movements, called saccades, are a skill. And like any skill, they can be evaluated and trained.
