Family Fun Friday: Build-Your-Own Snack Board! 🧁🥨🍓

Who says dinner (or snacks!) has to be boring? Tonight, turn your kitchen into a mini snack café with a Build-Your-Own Snack Board Night!

Set out small bowls of easy favorites like:
🧀 Cheese
🥨 Pretzels & crackers
🍓 Fruit
🍿 Popcorn
🍫 A few fun treats

Then let each family member create their own custom snack plate or board. Fancy? A little. Easy? VERY. 😄

Bonus ideas:
✨ Give your snack board a theme
🎨 Rate each board for creativity
📸 Snap photos of everyone’s creations

It’s simple, low-stress, and a fun way to gather, snack, and connect together.....and we all know snack time is everyone’s favorite!

💬 Wise Words Wednesday: End-of-the-Year Burnout Is Real for Parents Too

By the end of a school year, caregivers are tired too. 😅

Whether there’s one week left, one month left, or just “one more thing” left on the calendar… this time of year can feel like a LOT.

The lunches.
The emails.
The concerts, projects, sports, spirit weeks, schedule changes, and mental load of trying to hold everything together.

And just like our kids, we can start feeling a little checked out too.

One of the best things we can do is let our kids hear us talk through burnout in healthy ways nnot pretending we’re endlessly energized, but showing them how we cope, reset, and keep going.

💬 “Wow, my brain is feeling really full today. I’m going to make a list so I don’t have to hold it all in my head.”

💬 “I am definitely feeling end-of-the-year tired. Let’s put on music and get through this together.”

💬 “I don’t have the energy to do everything perfectly today, so I’m going to focus on what matters most first.”

Little moments like this teach our kids:
✔️ Burnout happens to everyone
✔️ Feeling overwhelmed is part of being human
✔️ We can ask for help, reset, and take things one step at a time

Sometimes surviving the end of the school year isn’t about doing it all perfectly…

It’s about supporting each other through the final stretch. 💛

As the school year starts winding down, you may notice your teen seeming a little… different. 😅 Whether they have a day, week, a month left...they can check out a bit sooner.

Less motivated.
More tired.
A little checked out.
Suddenly acting like school ended emotionally three weeks ago.

And honestly? That end-of-year shift happens to a lot of teens.

Their brains have been balancing academics, friendships, schedules, activities, social pressure, and constant stimulation for months. By this point in the year, many teens are simply feeling mentally and emotionally worn down.

Just like adults start daydreaming about vacation before time off, teens start feeling the pull toward summer, rest, freedom, and a change of pace.

That doesn’t mean responsibilities disappear but it does mean they may need a little extra support staying focused and finishing strong.

A few things that can help:
☀️ Keep routines consistent
📅 Break tasks into smaller pieces
💧 Prioritize sleep, movement, and downtime
💬 Focus on encouragement over constant pressure
🎯 Help them focus on “one thing at a time” instead of the entire finish line

Sometimes this season looks less like motivation…
and more like helping them gently make it to the end. 💛

I cleaned the whole house.

Everything vacuumed.
Everything wiped down.
The house was peaceful. Beautiful. Calm.

And then the dog got an upset stomach. 🐶😵‍💫And we all know what happened next.....

My kids cleaned their rooms
after the 37th reminder…
not the 40th.

We’re making progress.
Slow, deeply exhausting progress…
but progress nonetheless. 😅👏

Honestly, at this point I celebrate any victory that happens before complete parental burnout.

💬 Wise Words Wednesday: Sometimes Adults Need Processing Time Too

Just like teens, adults don’t always want to talk the second we walk through the door either. 😅

Sometimes we’re:
🧠 Mentally overloaded
📱 Distracted
😵 Still processing the day
💬 Or simply not ready to fully talk yet

And that’s okay.

One of the best things we can do for our kids is normalize that needing a little space or quiet time doesn’t mean disconnection, it just means we’re human.

When our kids hear us talk through this out loud, they learn:
✔️ It’s okay to need time to process
✔️ Connection doesn’t always have to happen immediately
✔️ We can communicate our needs kindly

Try letting them hear things like:

💬 “I had a long day and my brain needs a few quiet minutes before I can fully chat.”

💬 “I want to hear all about your day—I just need a quick reset first.”

💬 “I’m still processing today. Let’s go for a walk or hang out together and talk later.”

Sometimes connection looks less like big conversations…
and more like simply being together while everyone unwinds. 💛

💬 Teen Tuesday: The “One Word Response” Days

“How was your day?”
“Fine.”

If you have a teen, you’ve probably experienced the one-word-answer phase. 😅

And while it can feel frustrating (or even personal), the truth is connection doesn’t always look like long conversations.

Sometimes teens are:
🧠 Still processing their day
😵 Emotionally overloaded
📱 Distracted
💬 Or simply not ready to talk yet

Many teens need time before they can fully open up and often the real conversations happen later, when there’s less pressure.

Instead of rapid-fire questions, try:
🚗 Talking in the car
🍿 Sitting together during a show
🚶 Going for a walk
🥤 Asking small, casual questions instead of big ones

And remember: a “fine” today doesn’t mean they’ll never talk. Keeping the door open matters more than getting all the details right away.

Sometimes connection looks less like conversation…
and more like simply staying present. 💛

For Mother’s Day, I was not gifted a personal assistant.

No scheduler.
No snack coordinator.
No email responder.
No tiny household operations manager.

Honestly… what a missed opportunity. 😵‍💫💐

Family Fun Friday: Mystery Map Adventure! 🗺️🔍

Turn your house into a treasure hunt adventure tonight!

Draw a simple “treasure map” of your home, hide a small surprise or prize, and leave clues along the way for family members to solve. 🏴‍☠️✨

You can make it silly, tricky, or themed:
🦸 Superhero mission
🏝️ Pirate treasure hunt
🕵️ Mystery detective clues

Kids LOVE the excitement of following clues and searching for hidden treasure and parents usually have just as much fun joining in. 💛

Adventure, teamwork, problem-solving, and laughter all rolled into one easy family night activity!
