“How much will my visit cost?”

It's a fair question. And we wish the answer were simple.

At Access Family Care, we understand that healthcare costs can be confusing and frustrating. We share that frustration.

Think about it. When you take your car to a mechanic, you can usually get an estimate before agreeing to the work. When you shop for groceries, the prices are right there on the shelves.

**But healthcare doesn't always work that way. And we believe patients deserve better.**

Here's why giving you an exact price can be difficult:

**Your insurance matters.**

Different insurance companies have different agreements about what they pay for healthcare services. What one patient pays may be very different from what another person pays for the same visit.

**Your income may matter.**

At Access Family Care, qualifying patients may receive reduced costs through our Sliding Fee Discount Program, based on household income and family size.

**Your medical needs matter.**

Sometimes, a provider won't know everything you need until they've examined you. You might need blood work, other tests, or additional care that wasn't included in an original estimate.

That means a price we give you before your visit may not be your final cost.

**We know that's frustrating. It's frustrating for us, too.**

We believe you deserve to understand what your healthcare may cost before receiving it. You shouldn't have to feel embarrassed about asking questions, and you shouldn't have to be afraid to discuss money with your healthcare provider.

While we can't fix the entire healthcare system, we can promise to treat your questions with honesty, patience, and respect.

**Please ask us about costs. Ask about our Sliding Fee Discount Program. Ask what your insurance may cover. And if you're concerned about paying for additional tests or services, tell us.**

We may not always have an exact answer, but we'll do our best to help you understand your options.

Some of our patients in Barry and Lawrence Counties recently received a letter from Access Family Care regarding upcoming provider changes. Unfortunately, that letter contained incorrect information about where some of our providers will be practicing.

One of our amazing Caregivers, Lacy, had a vision to assist the Joplin Community with safe disposal of medications. Lacy set about establishing an approved medication disposal drop off, inside our Joplin Clinic.

Today, Lacy’s hard work came to fruition as we christened the collection “bin” with old medications deposited by our CEO Don McBride. Don said it was easy to use and he appreciated protecting the environment by properly disposing of old medications.

The collection site is open to anyone, during our normal business hours, and is located inside our Pharmacy at 530 S. Maiden Lane in Joplin.
