Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home is located in Nevada and Maxwell, Iowa and also serves the surrounding communities. We are a family owned and operated funeral home offering traditional burial services, cremation services, and monument sales. Our funeral home in Nevada was originally known as the Cooper-Ryan Funeral Home that was located on Lincoln Highway. Robert Bacon purchased the funeral home in 1997 and the business became known as Bacon Funeral Home. Rob maintained that facility until November of 2004 when the new fully handicap accessible funeral home was built at 1418 Fawcett Parkway in the Nevada Business Park. That facility was the first funeral home in Story County to offer on-site cremation. Our Maxwell location dates back to the 1890's and was started by the Cooper Family as a furniture and undertaking business. The Coopers continuously operated that funeral home until the sale to Robert Bacon in 1997. In 2015, Robert built a 3000 square foot addition to the Maxwell location to make it fully handicap accessible and accommodate more guests. In January of 2016, Robert sold both funeral homes to Justin Rasmusson. Both funeral homes were then known as Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory. In March of 2019, Rasmusson purchased Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada. The name was changed to Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home & Crematory. Euell Charlyne Lingo

Euell Charlyne (Lewis) Lingo, 84, of Nevada, Iowa, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2026 at Story County Senior Care in Nevada. There will be a private memorial service for the family with burial at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri.

Charlyne was born on September 17, 1942, in Joppa, Illinois, to Charles Raymond Lewis and Cassie Euell (Phillips) Lewis. She moved to the Kansas City area in 1967.

She dedicated her life to service to the Community of Christ Church and was a member of The Good Shepherd Community of Christ Congregation. Her ministry began at the age of 14 when she taught a Sunday School class. Over a sixty-year span, Charlyne was involved in various activities and positions in her church, including Girl’s Director, Skylark Leader, Den Mother, Building Coordinator (for 20 years), Bible School Teacher, Children’s Moments Leader, Preaching, and Women’s Prayer Breakfast Coordinator. She cooked for many activities whenever asked. Charlyne was an ordained Priest and received the International Youth Award for service to youth.

One Thanksgiving, after their children were grown, Charlyne and husband Bill sat at their table and thought about all the homeless and lonely people who had nothing. The following year they started an annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the homeless and lonely, which in a few years expanded to delivering meals to shut-ins. The first dinner they served two people and the tradition grew each year. When they retired from the annual Thanksgiving Dinner after 20 years, they were serving over 300 meals.

Charlyne loved her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to hosting her annual Christmas Tea and Easter get-together for the grandkids. Her condo was never too small and there was always room for one more.

She and Bill were married for 60 years. One of her most memorable events was their 50th anniversary party, where they celebrated with 200 friends and family members and received a very special congratulatory letter from President Steve Veazey, the President of the Church.

The youngest of seven children, Charlyne and was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Lingo, Jr.; parents, Charles Raymond and Cassie Euell Lewis; brothers Robert Lewis, George Lewis, Bobbie Lewis, and Richard Lewis; sisters Jean Hopkins and Joanne Frothingham; and daughter-in-law Sheila Lingo. She is survived by daughters Joy Freeland (Tim), Penny Browning (Mark), and Amy Toney (Jay); son William R. Lingo, III (Dianna); 10 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Charlyne will always be remembered for her sweet smile and delicious hot rolls!

Phyllis Echer

Phyllis Echer, 84, a lifelong resident of Cambridge, Iowa, passed away at StoryPoint of Ankeny on October 13, 2026.

Phyllis was born on November 5, 1941. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Joe “John” Echer; her parents, Harvey and Juanita Rench, her sister, Sharon Nash; and her brother, Harvey Jr. “Bugs” Rench.

Phyllis is survived by her three sons, Rory (Makai) of Huxley, Mick (Robin) of Des Moines and Brett (Tena) of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Anthony Echer, John Echer, Brody Echer Alle Payne and Lacey Echer; six great-grandchildren, Haley, Ella, Leo, Grason, Lincoln and Mason; and her siblings, Esther Stowe, Darrell Rench, Ron Rench and Marilyn Olson.

A graveside service will be held at the Cambridge Cemetery on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of her life at the Dorcas Hall on Water Street in Cambridge beginning at noon.

Rhonda (Kerr) Bagley

Rhonda Lynne (Kerr) Bagley, age 73, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 11, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.

Rhonda was born on February 5, 1953, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Ivan F. and Imogene June (McHone) Kerr. Raised in Cambridge, she graduated from Ballard High School in 1971.

Through her work as an administrative office professional, Rhonda had the opportunity to live in many places across the country. Most recently, she worked for a tourist bureau in Las Vegas. In 2010, she returned home to Cambridge, where she treasured being close to her family.

Rhonda’s faith was at the heart of her life. She knew and loved her Lord and was a devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Ames. She also had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved cat, Lucy. Family and friends will fondly remember Rhonda for her wonderful cooking, her resourcefulness, and her remarkable gift for being able to make things, even when ingredients were limited.

Those left to cherish Rhonda’s memory include her brother, Ivan (Sheryl) Kerr of Walnut Creek, CA; her nieces, Teresa (Ron) Baker of Boone, Lisa Erickson of Cambridge, Lisa (John) Owen of Roseville, CA, and Christine Kerr of Walnut Creek, CA; her many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews, Katherine (Katie )Owen of Elk Grove, CA, Hannah Owen of Carlsbad, CA, Lindsey (Michael) Mitchell of Bondurant, Melissa Pierce and Kris Decklever of Cambridge, Joseph (Leah) Crawford of Cambridge, Emily Helland and Ryan Sloth of Huxley, Elizabeth (Tyler) Jacobson of Huxley and Eric (Sarah) Longnecker of Cambridge; along with 16 great-great nieces and nephews .

Rhonda was welcomed in death by her parents and her sister, Linda Kerr.

A funeral service celebrating Rhonda’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 3113 Diamond Street, Ames. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed at www.rasmussonfh.com.

Rhonda will be laid to rest at Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge following the service. After the committal, family and friends are invited to gather for a luncheon at Dorcas Hall in Cambridge to share memories and fellowship.

DaLene Kahler

DaLene Susan Kahler, age 55, of Cambridge, passed away Monday, October 12, 2026, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines following a brief illness

DaLene was born July 5, 1971, in Kearney, Nebraska, the daughter of John Faris and Margaret Colene (Hager) Rash, affectionately known to Mark as “Martha.” She graduated from Chariton High School in 1989 and continued her education at Indian Hills Community College.

On August 16, 2008, DaLene married Mark Kahler at the log cabin at the Iowa State Fair—a place that always held a special place in their hearts. The fair was woven throughout their life together: it was where they became engaged, where they married, and where they returned to celebrate every anniversary.

For 33 years, DaLene dedicated herself to her work at Principal Financial in Des Moines, where she specialized in retirement planning. She was also a member of Cambridge United Methodist Church and the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement.

Family time brought DaLene great joy. She loved camping and especially looked forward to the family’s annual trip to Whispering Pines, Minnesota, where she could fish, relax, and make treasured memories with those she loved. A devoted Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, DaLene proudly cheered on her team. She and Mark cherished the countless hours they spent together while he was trucking, as well as their time at home, where a favorite outing was dinner at Abbie’s Pizza in Bondurant.

Those left to cherish DaLene’s memory include her husband, Mark, of Cambridge; her son, Mathew (Jackie) Kahler, of Cambridge; her daughter, Demi Bucklen, of Greeley, Colorado; her beloved grandchildren, Drake Eckley, McLain Kahler, Emberleigh Kahler, and Huntleigh Marie Bucklen; her brothers, Dwight (Janet) Rash, of Kearney, Nebraska, and Daryl Rash, of Atlantic; her sister, Darla Rash, of Chariton; her in-laws, Crystal (Mike) Hughs, of Cambridge, Amber (Jay) Weeks, of Ankeny, and Wade (Pam) Kahler, of Cambridge; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was welcomed in death by her parents; her father- and mother-in-law, Skip and Alice Kahler; her brothers, Douglas and Donovan Rash; sister-in-law Dixie Rash; and nephew Matthew Widrowicz.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Parkway in Nevada. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2026, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge. Following the burial, a reception will be held at the Cambridge City Center in Cambridge.

Eunice Mae Pringnitz

Eunice Mae Pringnitz, 95, of Osage, passed away Friday, October 9, 2026, at StoryPoint Memory Care in Urbandale, surrounded by family.

Eunice was born on May 11, 1931, near Riceville, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie and Lydia (Milbrandt) Button. She attended Mitchell County Rural School through the eighth grade and then Riceville High School, where she played basketball as a guard. She graduated in 1949.

She attended Luther College before moving to Mason City, where she worked at United Home Bank & Trust as a bookkeeper for the next four years. It was during this time that she met the love of her life at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, and her life path changed forever.

On April 23, 1955, she was united in marriage to Stanley Pringnitz at First Congregational Church in Riceville during an impressive candlelight service. They began their life together at the Pringnitz farm in Kanawha and started their family. In 1959, with their two young daughters, they settled on a farm north of Osage, where they welcomed four more children and remained for more than four decades. Eunice cherished her role as a mother to her six children and took great pride in attending their sporting events and activities.

Eunice was a faithful member of United Church of Christ and served as a 4-H leader for several years. In 1980, the Pringnitz family was honored as the Mitchell County 4-H Family of the Year. Eunice was quoted as saying “I think 4-H is a wonderful organization to teach our young people responsibility and leadership.” Having benefited from 4-H as a young girl herself, she made sure all of her children had the opportunity to participate as well.

After her children were older, Eunice began working at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. Between 1985 and 1986, she completed health care aide training through NIACC in Mason City. She later worked at the Mitchell County Home, where she shared her compassionate caregiving skills with residents until her retirement.

Stanley and Eunice enjoyed spending 14 winters in Texas and traveling with friends and family. Eunice loved playing cards and earned a reputation as a "card shark." She also enjoyed bingo, exercise classes, live music, and community events. Most of all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Diane (Wayne) Budding of Wilton, Kathy (Jim) Abens of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Wanda Hoven (Jim Nalley) of Polk City; her sons, Dick (Loni) Pringnitz of Nevada, Iowa, and Scott (Deana) Pringnitz of Clarksville, Ohio; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Pringnitz of Spirit Lake; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Don and Chuck Button; her sisters, Helen Ma**er and Arlene Redrow; her husband, Stanley; and her son, Doug Pringnitz.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 27, 2026, at United Church of Christ in Osage, with Rev. Dixie Laube officiating. Family will greet friends following the service at the church in the fellowship hall. A private graveside service for family will follow at Osage Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cedar River Complex Wellness Center or United Church of Christ, both in Osage.

Mel Cockerham

Melody Renee “Mel” Cockerham passed away on October 3, 2026, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Mel was 72 and made her home in Nevada.

Mel was born on August 8, 1954, to Robert and Inez Meindl. She attended Dows High School and later found her lifelong companion in Daniel Cockerham. Mel and Dan were united in marriage on October 27, 1984, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Iowa, beginning nearly 42 years of life together.

Mel spent most of her career working at GFS in Nevada. Away from work, she found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—settling in with a good book, spending time on the computer, and, in earlier years, dancing with Dan at the Moose Lodge in Ames. The two shared many enjoyable outings to Meskwaki and Prairie Meadows. Mel also took great pride in her extensive Emmett Kelly clown collection, which she lovingly cherished through the years.

Above all, Mel treasured her family. She will be deeply missed by her husband of nearly 42 years, Dan of Nevada; her daughter, Jennifer (Karl) Smith of Altoona; her grandson, Zach Miller of Pleasant Hill; her brothers, Art D**e of Amarillo, Texas, and Daniel (Jackie) Meindl of Topeka, Kansas; her sisters, Colleen (Alfredo) Salas of Dumas, Texas, and Rosalie Meindl of Amarillo, Texas; and many nieces and nephews that had a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Inez.

Mel will be remembered with love for the joy she found in her favorite pastimes and for the many memories she created with those closest to her. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family, with their use to be determined at a later date.

Donald Hurn

Donald James Hurn, age 86, of Algona, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Windsor Manor in Nevada.

Don was born on June 26, 1940, in Algona, Iowa, to Matthew Paul and Irene (Kellershon) Hurn. He graduated from Algona High School in 1958. In 1963, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country for four years until his honorable discharge in 1967. On August 22, 1964, Don married Judith Elaine Rovn at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Algona. Together, Don and Judy built a life centered on family, faith, hard work, and the community they loved.

Don spent his career working in agriculture and livestock operations. He was a devoted member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Algona and the Knights of Columbus. A talented woodworker, he especially enjoyed making toys and furniture for his family—pieces that will continue to carry his care and craftsmanship for years to come.

In the 1980s, Don built the family home where he and Judy lived until health concerns led them to move to Nevada to be closer to family. In his younger years, he enjoyed working in the pits with a stock car racing team. He loved tractors, could fix just about anything, and always looked forward to planting and harvest, when he could help his dear friend Jim in the field.

Above all, Don treasured his family. He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Nevada; his children, Chris Hurn (Catherine Severson) of Chappaqua, New York, Timothy (Jodi) Hurn of Phoenix, Arizona, and Tammy (Brent) Metzger of Nevada, Iowa; his grandchildren, Ashley (Alex) Spicher, Jennifer (Cory) Wilson, Cooper Hurn, Brady Hurn, and Adrienne Hurn; his great-grandchildren, Ren, Lyn, and Hazel; and his sister, Carole Ludwig of Algona, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William “Bill” Hurn; and his sister, Barbara Hurn.

A memorial service and celebration of Don’s life will be held at a future date with him being laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Algona, Iowa.

Keith Wilson

Keith Wilson, 71, of Colo, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, leaving behind a family and community who will miss him dearly.

Keith was born on September 8, 1955, in Ames, Iowa, to Richard J. “Short” Wilson and Phyllis J. Jay. After graduating from Colo High School in 1973, he built a life rooted in the land he loved, farming near Colo. Keith met Kim Adams, and the two shared a loving partnership of 24 years. They were married on March 4, 2012, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Keith found his greatest happiness in life’s simple pleasures: the annual Wilson family trip to Cass Lake in Minnesota, days spent farming, and a good margarita. He treasured Friday nights with Kim at Meskwaki Casino and rarely missed the chance to cheer on his grandchildren at their many events.

Keith will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Kim of Colo; his children, Brandon (Jackie) Wilson and their children, Keaton and Holden Fry, and Annie (Daric) Kaestner and their children, Madison (Patrick) Michael, Alaina Tjelmeland (Keegan Tolle) and their daughter, Blair Tolle, Avary Tjelmeland and Christopher Kaestner; his stepchildren, Jason Adams (Katie & Raylan), Ryan Adams and Brandon (Ashley) Adams and their children, Bowen, Brecken and Brilee, Ryan Wilson-Foley and Sonja (Michael) Schreffler and their family; his brothers, Bob (Sharon) Wilson and Merle (Pam) Wilson; his brother-in-law, Greg Peters; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Virginia “Ginny” Peters.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 5–7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Pkwy, in Nevada. A memorial service celebrating Keith’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the Colo First United Methodist Church, 602 4th Street, in Colo, with Pastor Nikki Ross-Bishop officiating. A reception and luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place at a later date at Colo Cemetery in Colo.

Joe Dodson

Joseph Carl Dodson, age 80, of Nevada, Iowa, passed away on September 17, 2026, in his home peacefully and surrounded by his family.

Joe entered this world on August 22, 1946, in Kirksville, Missouri, to John and Bonnie Dodson. He grew up in Lancaster, Missouri and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1964. He is survived by one sister, Joy Beth (Jeff) Anderson. Following high school, Joe enlisted in the Air Force, where he served from 1966 to 1969 as a Morse Intercept Operator, stationed in Okinawa, Japan and Osan, South Korea, rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant.

He then found a career as a telephone lineman, working with General Telephone Electronics Corporation (GTE) for over 25 years and then Iowa Telecom as a supervisor until his retirement. Joe was especially proud of his family and took his title of patriarch very seriously. Everyone knew he was the “Alpha Male.” Joe was a master gardener, routinely creating an oasis in his backyard.

Some of his favorite times were to sit there, grill, watch the birds, and share time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed vacationing in Mud Hen Lake, Wisconsin, fishing, collecting, and Corvettes. His greatest enjoyment was talking about and spending time with his family. The recent additions of his great-grandchildren Samuel Kelso and Colton Joseph were a source of pride, strength, and deep adoration during his final years of life.

Joe is survived by his wife of 51 years Vicki (Kelso) Dodson; children Kendra (Dean) Dodson Breitsprecher and Joseph Kelso Dodson; grandchildren Kelso (Beth Shaffer) Breitsprecher, Josie (Emma) Shelton, Patrick Breitsprecher, Joseph Mendal Dodson, Gracie Dodson, Lucy Sharron Dodson; and great-grandchildren Sam and Colton Shelton.

Joe was preceded in death by his in-laws, L E and Mabel Kelso.

Those who knew and loved him will remember him for his kindness, humor, faith, and love of family. He will be deeply missed by everyone, especially his Snacktime family, with whom he enjoyed breakfast several times a week.

A visitation is scheduled from 5-7 Friday, October 2, at Central Presbyterian Church, in Nevada, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 3, at 11:00 am at Central Presbyterian Church with Pastor John Molacek officiating.

Joe loved flowers. The family asks that whenever you are greeted by the beautiful fall colors, you think of him.

Craig McEnany

Craig Alan McEnany, 70, of Nevada, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, after an unexpected and brief battle with cancer.

Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Pkwy, in Nevada.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1110 11th Street, in Nevada, with burial at St. Patricks Catholic Cemetery following Mass.

Craig was born December 13, 1955, the son of Donald and Virginia McEnany. He was united in marriage to Lisa Engelken on August 31, 1985.

Craig taught Agricultural Education for 48 years. He taught a combined nine years of high school at Anamosa, Waverly-Shell Rock, and Nevada. He was an instructor and program chair in the Agribusiness program at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), Ankeny campus, for 30 years, retiring in December 2017, but continuing as an adjunct instructor until 2023.

He continued to work with students at Iowa State University with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences as a Student Services Coordinator from 2018 until August 31, 2026.

Craig’s career was defined by his role as an educator who taught his students to believe in themselves and, when faced with challenges, taught them that the best way to take them on is to use the key to the bulldozer.

The assumption was that Craig won many awards, when in reality the awards were the result of earning through doing.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa, and seven children: Melissa McEnany of Ames, IA, Michael (Ashley) McEnany of Nevada, IA, Michelle (Brian) Titus of State Center, IA, Maria McEnany of Adel, IA, Megan (Tim) Bagge of Grimes, IA, Morgan (Alex) Flinn of West Des Moines, IA, and Mary McEnany of Adel, IA; and four grandchildren, Miles McEnany, Hailey Titus, Elliott Bagge, and Anne Flinn; his mother, Virginia McEnany of Waverly, IA; a brother, Kevin (Becky) McEnany of Floyd, IA; sisters, LaDonna (Larry) Pagel of Cedar Falls, IA and Patti (Tim) Marquart of Waterloo, IA.

He is preceded in death by his father, Donald McEnany; his parents-in-law, Edwin and Aletha Engelken; a grandson, Aloysius Flinn; and the babies who are forever in our hearts.

Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial fund for the Iowa Association of Agriculture Educators or to the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Future of Agriculture Scholarship Fund.
