In 1983, the Story County Hospital Auxiliary donated new parallel bars to the therapy department, helping long-term care residents regain strength and mobility.

Pictured is resident Nellie Shickell with Jean Matthews, CNA, and Auxiliary member Dorothy Pointer. Their efforts reflected a belief that rehabilitation and maintaining independence were just as important as medical treatment.

This 1980 photo captured one of the first test landings of an emergency medical helicopter serving Story County Hospital.

At the time, the hospital and community leaders explored several potential landing locations throughout Nevada — including the municipal airport — to ensure patients could quickly access advanced care when needed. Concerns about weather and field conditions highlighted the importance of having a dependable landing area close to the hospital.

Today, Story Medical is home to the county's only hospital-based helipad, providing rapid access to air medical transport when every minute matters.
