For Steven Ferris, a garden is more than flowers—it’s where beauty, knowledge, and purpose come together. With a career in landscape horticulture, design, and rose sales, he spent his life introducing new rose varieties, educating customers, and sharing the joy of gardening.

When asked about his favorite rose, Steven smiles and says, “The one that sold the best!” His humor reflects his passion for connecting people with plants they’ll love. He especially admired vibrant hybrid tea roses, while also appreciating that every rose—fragrant or not—has its own value.

Steven also valued resilient varieties like Carefree Beauty, recognizing their practicality even if they lacked the fragrance of classic roses. His knowledge is both technical and heartfelt, shaped by years of experience and genuine love for nature.

Today, Steven continues to inspire others through stories, advice, and a lifelong appreciation for gardens. His passion reminds us that beauty grows best when it is shared.

Today, our Life Enrichment team at Smith’s Mill Health Campus had the absolute joy of revealing a very special surprise for our resident Allison—her Live a Dream wish is coming true! 💙☀️

We are taking Allison on a beautiful boat ride on Buckeye Lake, and her reaction said it all. With pure excitement and disbelief, she asked, “How did she know?”—a moment that perfectly captured just how special this experience is for her.

From that moment on, Allison was all smiles as she looked forward to her upcoming adventure on the water, filled with anticipation for a day she will never forget.

We can’t wait to share the memories from this incredible experience—stay tuned for our next post to see just how much she enjoyed her dream! 🚤✨

A heartfelt thank you to Barb and Mike for opening up your beautiful home and hearts to our residents for a wonderful morning of fishing! 🎣❤️

There was nothing better than spending time by the water, casting lines, sharing stories, and soaking in the peaceful outdoors. To top it all off, everyone enjoyed sweet, juicy watermelon while making memories together.

Experiences like these remind us that it’s not just about the activity—it’s about connection, kindness, and creating moments our residents will never forget.

One of the greatest joys of leadership is watching someone discover their gifts and use them to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

When Marsella interviewed with us at Smith’s Mill Health Campus, she shared that she had been the president of her school’s art club. I immediately recognized her passion and knew we had something special. I pitched her the idea I’d love to see her host her first Art show here, and my goal was this would be her first big project to plan, coordinated, and execute.
Together, we created Artistic Odyssey with Marsella, a weekly Thursday art class where our residents could explore their creativity, express themselves, and build confidence through art.

That vision came to life in the most beautiful way.

Marsella hosted her very first resident art showcase, featuring a diverse collection of artwork created through her class, along with personal pieces from residents who have long enjoyed art as a hobby. Every artist was celebrated. Marsella thoughtfully honored each participant with a personalized certificate, sharing kind words that reflected their unique talents and creative journey.

Guests enjoyed an elegant evening with a wonderful selection of wines, a beautiful charcuterie spread filled with meats, cheeses, fruits, and vegetables, and the incredible piano music of Tim Dvorkin, creating the perfect atmosphere to celebrate our resident artists.

Marsella, I couldn’t be more proud of you, Thank you for believing in our residents, encouraging them to create, and building a program that has brought so much joy, confidence, and purpose to our community. Your passion, thoughtfulness, and creativity have left a lasting mark on Smith’s Mill, and I can’t wait to see where your journey with Smith’s Mill takes you next.

🥊 Gloves up and spirits high at Smith’s Mill! 🥊

Our residents had an incredible time during today’s Synchrony Fit Boxing class! From jabs and hooks to plenty of laughter and encouragement, everyone enjoyed a fun, energizing workout that challenged both the body and the mind.

Programs like this help improve strength, coordination, balance, and confidence while creating meaningful moments together. We are so proud of our residents for stepping into the ring with enthusiasm and determination!

Here’s to staying active, building confidence, and proving that it’s never too late to try something new. 💪❤️
