Jean will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her devotion to her family, her generous spirit, and the kindness and warmth she shared so freely. Her beautiful smile, loving heart, and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Though she will be greatly missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.

A celebration of Jean's life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 1:00 pm. The family will receive visitors following the service. Jean will be laid to rest with her husband at Greenleaf at a later time during a private service.

Everyone will remember Joanne’s booming smile, loving hugs, and thoughtfulness. To know Joanne is to love her back as much as she loved everyone she encountered while she was with us.

A service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Oriental, NC on September 9th at 2pm, and a vigil for “Truth & Tall Tales” to be held the evening prior, starting at 7pm in the church’s Parish Hall. The interment will be at a later date.

Veterans and their families are invited to join Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory and VFW Post 2514 - New Bern, NC on Saturday, September 26, in New Bern for Veterans & America 250.

Come experience more than 250 years of American military history through reenactors, veterans, uniforms, artifacts and stories from the Revolutionary War through Vietnam. The afternoon will also include a Missing Man Table ceremony, dinner, live acoustic music, door prizes and more.

The event is free for veterans and their families. Space is limited, so an RSVP is required.

Melinda Kay Barrow will be remembered for her big heart, joyful laugh, and the way she made everyone she met feel heard. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Melinda grew up in New Bern and was a lifelong member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. She spent many years working in the restaurant industry, including managing McCall’s at Emerald Isle and Flippers Restaurant. She loved people, the beach, and was a founding member of the Parrothead Club of Emerald Isle.

In her forties, Melinda was diagnosed with dementia, but the disease never took away the heart of who she was. Her personality and loving spirit remained present throughout her journey, and she was deeply cared for by her family, friends, caregivers, and the staff at The Indigo at New Bern.

Jeffrey Thomas Edgerton, 58, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. A lifelong member of Temple Church, Jeff’s love of God was reflected in his service as a Deacon and in the joy he shared with everyone around him. He will be remembered for his beautiful smile, infectious laughter, and for never missing an opportunity to tell others that he loved them.

A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held Monday, August 31, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Temple Church, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
