What is a bevel marker, and why do some families choose it instead of a flat marker?
A bevel marker is a low-profile grave marker with a gently sloped face, designed to sit slightly above the ground while making the lettering easier to read.
It’s typically made from granite, with the front face angled upward so names and dates are more visible when standing nearby. It still keeps a simple, close-to-the-ground appearance, but the raised edge and slope create a clearer viewing angle compared to a flat marker.
Families often choose a bevel marker when they want something modest that still improves readability, especially in sections where upright monuments aren’t permitted.
Cemetery guidelines often determine how high the marker can sit above the ground and whether a bevel is allowed, so placement and size can vary depending on the location.
