Our Cardiac Rehab Program is more than exercise. It is a personalized journey toward stronger heart health, improved stamina, and renewed confidence. It is also a journey that continues long after you graduate. When David Moody graduated from our rehab following a cardiac event, he chose to keep coming back, taking advantage of continued access to our rehab gym and care team. For him, it made all the difference.
That consistency of continued care, David said, has helped him stay committed to his recovery and continue building strength over time. It is one more way we support our patients beyond recovery, helping them maintain their progress and move forward with confidence.

Our latest Teddy Bear Clinic at the New Braunfels Public Library was our biggest yet, welcoming more than 70 children and their families from across the community.

Several times throughout the year, Dr. Kristyn Mathewson and members of our nursing team host this special event to give children a fun, hands-on introduction to health care. Children bring their favorite stuffed animals for a “checkup,” enjoy stories about visiting the doctor and participate in interactive stations featuring cardiology, radiology, newborn care, crafts and more.

This event helps make health care less intimidating for children while showcasing the compassionate care and expertise our team brings to those we serve every day. Thank you to Dr. Mathewson, our nurses and everyone who helped make this Teddy Bear Clinic such a success. Stay tuned for the next opportunity to join us!

We celebrated the Feast Day of Saint Rose of Lima, honoring the patron saint of our hospital 🙏🌹💜
Through prayer services and special crowning ceremonies, our Associates came together in faith, gratitude and fellowship to celebrate her enduring legacy of compassion and service.
Saint Rose of Lima was the first person born in the Americas to be canonized as a Catholic saint. Her life of prayer, charity and care for those in need continues to inspire us in our healing ministry today.
May Saint Rose’s example remind us of the power of faith, compassion and serving others.

Thank you, The GVTC Foundation, for their generous gift of $2,500 to support the Every Baby Matters Mission (EBMM) Program at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels.

Over the past four years, the GVTC Foundation has invested more than $15,000 through the Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation, helping us provide vital support to mothers and newborns in our community. Their continued generosity strengthens the impact of the Every Baby Matters Mission, a unique home visitation program that serves mothers who have recently delivered and their babies throughout Comal County and surrounding areas.

Through EBMM, labor and delivery registered nurses conduct in-home medical and wellness assessments, offering families the guidance, resources, and support they need during those critical first weeks after birth.

Thank you, GVTC Foundation, for helping us ensure every baby and every mother receives the care and support they deserve. To learn more about our Foundation's mission, visit the 🔗 in the comments.

CPR can mean the difference between life and death in a cardiac emergency. Since cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time, knowing how to perform CPR is vital for the safety and well-being of others.

Step 1: Check for Safety
Step 2: Check for Responsiveness
Step 3: Begin Chest Compressions
Step 4: Rescue Breaths (If Trained)
Step 5: Continue Until Help Arrives

Across our CHRISTUS ministries, we have exceptional Associates with incredible stories who are putting our .
One such Associate is Unit Secretary Jennifer Reeves, our latest POPPIES Award Honoree.

Similar to the DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses, the POPPIES Award recognizes Associates who collaborate with nursing to provide outstanding care and support. Jennifer was nominated for the kindness, dedication and commitment to excellence she brings to the MST team each day.

Her coworkers describe her as the “MST Team Mom,” who always finds thoughtful ways to support and uplift those around her. From making sure the unit has supplies and snacks to remembering birthdays, decorating the unit and creating thank-you cards, Jennifer helps build a welcoming and supportive environment for Associates and patients.

For the past four years, Bill Santmyer has been a familiar face at our surgery center, undergoing multiple procedures, stent placements, ablations and ICU stays as part of his cardiac journey. Along the way, he found not only expert care but also a compassionate team that felt like family.
After being diagnosed with congestive heart failure, Bill was cared for by a team of physicians, receiving a valve replacement that improved his quality of life. He also formed a special bond with Sarah, his go-to for IVs, whose kindness and skill made every visit easier.
Today, Bill attends cardiac rehabilitation three days a week and recommends CHRISTUS to anyone in need of heart care. He remains forever grateful to our entire staff, who consistently went above and beyond.
His wife, Patty, shares that gratitude and believes Bill is only here today because of the outstanding care he received. In her recent letter, she thanks CHRISTUS for saving Bill's life so they can be together in their later years.

Student-athlete heart checks are essential for detecting underlying heart conditions that could put athletes at risk of sudden cardiac arrest. That's why physicians recommend that student-athletes receive a cardiac screening before participating in competitive sports to uncover any hidden issues or health concerns and reduce the chances of sudden death due to undetected heart complications. The more information you have, the more you can focus on your health moving forward and be proactive rather than reactive.
