I would venture out and say your body (subconscious) always knows before your mind catches up. The subconscious runs the show.
This is why is important to go within. Here at Madrone Center for Counseling, PLLC we help you get in touch with the subconscious so you can move with authenticity throughout your life and be true to yourself! π«Ά
Thank you for posting this The Self π
There is a reason your body tightens before certain conversations.
A reason your stomach drops when their name appears on your phone.
A reason you rehearse your words before seeing them, even when nothing has happened yet.
A reason you feel exhausted after being around them, even if the visit was βfine.β
That is not you being dramatic.
That is your body remembering the pattern before your mind has finished explaining it away.
Because when you have spent years around emotionally unsafe people, you become very good at overriding yourself. You tell yourself they did not mean it. You tell yourself maybe you are too sensitive. You tell yourself it was not that bad, they are having a hard time, they are family, you should be over it by now.
But your body does not care about the story you use to survive.
It remembers the truth.
It remembers the tone. The silence. The guilt. The shift in the room. The way your honesty became a problem. The way your needs made you feel like a burden. The way you left feeling smaller, even when no one else saw what happened.
Sometimes healing begins when you stop asking, βDo I have a good enough reason to feel this?β
And start asking, βWhat is my body trying to protect me from?β
Because your discomfort is not always anxiety.
Sometimes it is recognition.
Sometimes your body is not overreacting.
It is telling the truth before you are ready to.
And maybe the next version of you does not need to keep walking back into places your nervous system already knows are not safe.
Maybe self-trust starts with listening the first time your body says, βNot here. Not again. Not this person.β
