Now, to speak very straightforwardly — one of the questions we have been asked repeatedly is: "Where do we go to have our glasses made correctly?"
Our honest recommendation is to seek eyecare professionals with the highest levels of medical and optical training and those who understand the importance of precision in both prescriptions and eyewear fitting. In many cases, Ophthalmologists (MDs), who specialize exclusively in medical eyecare, provide that level of comprehensive expertise.
Over the years, New Braunfels has experienced tremendous growth in optical retail businesses, optometry offices, and chain eyewear providers. While there are now many choices available, consumers should understand that experience, technical skill, proper measurements, and accurate frame fitting are critical to how well glasses ultimately perform for the individual wearer.
At Creative Eyewear, we have always believed eyewear is far more than a fashion accessory — it directly affects a person's quality of life every single day. For more than 40 years, our focus has been on taking care of people properly, with special attention given to senior citizens and individuals with special physical or personal needs who often require additional patience, understanding, and individualized care. That commitment has always been one of the most important parts of our business and who we are.
We proudly cared for everyone who walked through our doors, but we also recognized that many elderly and special-needs individuals are often underserved in today's fast-paced, volume-driven optical environment. Proper eyewear fitting, adjustments, prescription accuracy, and personal attention simply cannot be rushed.
Today, many businesses use terms such as "frame stylist" or similar sales-focused positions where one individual handles the process from beginning to end, often without extensive optical training or years of practical experience in fitting eyewear for specific prescriptions. Unfortunately, improper measurements, incorrect frame fitting, or lack of attention to prescription details can result in unnecessary vision problems, discomfort, and dissatisfaction with glasses.
Equally important is the quality and accuracy of the optical laboratory producing the lenses. Precision in lens fabrication matters greatly, particularly with stronger or more complex prescriptions. Skilled and experienced opticians understand how every detail — from measurements to frame adjustment — directly affects the patient's ability to see comfortably and clearly.
We encourage everyone to ask questions, understand what is being recommended to them, and never feel pressured into making immediate decisions. Your prescription belongs to you, and after your eye examination, you have the legal right to purchase your eyewear wherever you choose.
As technology, computers, and Al continue to evolve, they can provide helpful educational information and tools for consumers. However, technology can never replace genuine customer service, professional experience, compassion, patience, and the personal attention every individual deserves.
As we transition into retirement, we may continue sharing educational eyewear information and answering common questions through future Facebook or social media posts under a possible "Ask Questions About Your Eyewear Needs" format. Larry will also be taking some well-deserved time to rest and recharge after many dedicated years serving the community.
