Where you go for your medical problems and treatment matters. In today’s world there are so many voices giving their input whether you asked for it or not.

What supplements to take, what kind of foods to eat, what brand household items to use, what type of workouts are best, what sleep schedule works, what to wear, what to drink, what to think about, the list goes on.

But just keep in mind, if the voice you’re listening to doesn’t have the credentials and education to back it up, then it may not be worth following. Understanding how things work in the body means you have to know how the body works at a baseline. There’s a ripple effect from our actions. So maybe the neighbor selling peptides out of their garage whose main career is real estate isn’t the best option….

All we’re saying is be careful who you listen to and seek out trusted sources! Those supplements from a random supplier online may not actually be what they say they are. So taking time to ask your provider who has the expertise to point you in the direction of well vetted resources really is worth it. At MAC Med, we have your health in mind and utilize safe practices for all our treatments so you can be sure our advice is based in up to date research and best practice guidelines. 🖤✨

Happy Monday! Today’s a great day to start some new habits! We picked 4 as examples that are really basic things that actually go a long way when it comes to your health and wellness.

-Walking! We’ve said it a million times. Walking (especially throughout your day in little bits and after meals) is incredible for your body. And we know it’s still one million degrees out in the heat of the day so even little laps in your office or home can do the trick!

-Weights! Adding weights to your walks or workouts greatly improves your muscle mass and ability to build that lean muscle we need especially as we age. Muscle really is that important!!!!!!

-Water! Hydration is so simple yet often ignored. Drink your water y’all. It impacts more than you think.

-Whole foods! Really trying to prioritize whole foods over processed items can really change the game in your nutrition. Try to stay on the outer parts of the grocery store as much as possible. Think one ingredient over the list of junk on the back of the box of cookies. But stay realistic, life is all about balance.

Baby steps towards these habits can really shift your week! ✨

AUGUST ROUND UP.

A few favorites of last month. Let’s get into it.

-WHOLE 30. We gotta give Teresa props for following through with this. It’s a great reset for your gut and can actually help figure out food sensitivities for some. This is a pretty strict and disciplined 30 days of really having to think through your meals and staying on top of nutrition. Not meant to be forever, but a great tool for lowering inflammation!

-Clinical grade red light therapy. Not all red light is the same! Teresa has been working with a clinical grade red light laser for inflammation and autoimmune support and loves it!

-Berries & mangos! A sweet treat during whole 30 that has actually prompted some interesting conversations about the diet culture we were all raised in. For so many people there is an odd lingering fear around consuming fruit because of the sugar component. During whole 30 sugar is actually restricted for the entirety of the program but fruit is allowed. We also have had a few conversations with patients recently about how fruit is good for you and a nice sweet treat alternative to the cakes and cookies. So don’t be scared of fruit!!!!!! It’s natures candy to us all!

-Vaginal estrogen has been a repeat prescription these days and for good reason! The vaginal tissue naturally loses elasticity over time leading to pain, dryness, and even urinary problems. Most women tend to think that’s just a part of getting older and you have to deal with it! But we are here to tell you, there’s actually a simple treatment!!!! Vaginal estrogen does not significantly raise estrogen levels systemically throughout your body making it a great addition for women in the perimenopause/menopausal state. It can help relieve a lot of the symptoms you may be experiencing and isn’t an expensive treatment at all! Ask about it at your next appointment and don’t suffer silently!

-BPC 157 is a peptide we’ve been using pretty often here at MAC Med. It’s really great for tissue repair and recovery and we have seen a lot of success with it!

That’s all for this month. See ya next time and remember this is for education purposes only, always talk to your doctor before doing or adding anything! ✨

JULY FAVORITE HEALTHY HABITS.

-Kombucha!!! This has been a newer development for Teresa. Kombucha isn’t for everyone but if you enjoy it it’s a really great addition to your diet for gut health and microbiome diversity! Fermented foods and drinks feed the good bacteria in your gut and can really help balance you out! Plus they are super yummy! 🍒

-Thymosin Alpha. A peptide that can be used in autoimmune disorders for immune system modulation. (Used with provider supervision and prescription) ✨

-AI. Listen, this stuff is used everywhere these days. Obviously there is a time and place for it but learning how to incorporate them (not rely on them) can actually be helpful! 💻

-Making the bed! Seems silly but this one task can actually set you up well for your day! Taking the extra two minutes to just simply make your bed in your daily routine can help you be more productive throughout your day. Really it just comes down to creating healthy habits and this is one that can be useful! ☀️

-Celebrating friends and family! This month has been full of travels and weddings and showers! Allowing for time with others that fill you up is such a great way to keep your life balanced. Don’t get too down in the trenches with work and life. Let there be space to enjoy and play! 🥳

August, let’s goooooooo!!!!

Listen, we know it can be overwhelming to change your lifestyle all at once. The unhealthy patterns and habits are hard to shake. But we say it all the time — don’t miss the good for the perfect! Don’t beat yourself up for the day you didn’t work out or the morning you hit snooze and didn’t have time for breakfast. Nobody is perfect. We are aiming for progress not perfection!! We are all humans. We all have busy lives and hard things that happen and shake up our routines. Keep making those small daily swaps and slowly over time they will become more routine than your old habits! It’s a process. Stay with it. And give yourself some grace!
