Reminder: All EOSIS alumni are welcome to join us at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, at our Bridge Campus in Sauk Rapids. We'll have a smores station, snacks, outdoor games, giveaways and a special guest speaker.

The event is FREE and open to anyone who is a graduate of an EOSIS program. See you there!

My story of addiction started when I was a child and I experienced trauma. Initially, I wanted to become a counselor so that I could help my dad, who was in and out of prison and jail for most of my life. I started taking classes after high school and was very determined, but when I started drinking and experimenting with drugs, they became more important than classes and I dropped out. In my 20s, I experienced 13 jail stays and one prison stay. During this time, I was not able to see my young daughter. It crushed me! It kept me bound to addiction, because she was my everything.

One day, I had a spiritual awakening. I saw a fork in the road and realized that in order to get the things in life that I desired, I had to move in another direction. I couldn't keep numbing my pain. I needed to see my daughter. I was desperate for help and was at my absolute lowest. On Oct. 21, 2014, I went to treatment at EOSIS Tapestry campus and began my recovery journey.

Along the way, I received healing and gained purpose. I have never once looked back at my old life and wanted to return to it. I am currently an alcohol and drug counselor trainee. I look at my children every day, and I am so grateful that I can provide them with the stable life that I never had as a little girl. We can and do recover!

Mental health policy impacts individuals, families and communities suffering from addiction and behavioral health across Minnesota.

NAMI Minnesota and the Mental Health Legislative Network are hosting a series of nonpartisan, educational forums in the coming weeks for voters to meet candidates running for the Minnesota Senate and House of Representatives.

This is your chance to get informed about where they stand on mental health and related state policy issues. The nonpartisan, educational event will also provide an opportunity for candidates to hear directly from community members.

My journey of recovery began after a 15-year struggle with methamphetamine addiction. For many years, I found myself in and out of jails and treatment centers, repeatedly trying to put my life back together and struggling to find a way out of the cycle I was in. On July 19, 2015, I made the decision to stop using mood-altering chemicals and today, I am grateful to say that I have been in recovery ever since.

The last 11 years have transformed my life in ways I once never believed were possible. I married my best friend, became a mom to three amazing children, built healthy relationships with my family and friends and worked my way into a leadership role at EOSIS. Today, I get to enjoy the simple things I once took for granted such as fishing with my husband, spending time at my family cabin in the Boundary Waters, laughing with the people I love and showing up for the people who matter most to me.

If I could share one piece of wisdom with someone who is struggling today, it would be this: keep investing in your recovery. Recovery isn't something we achieve once and then never have to work on again.

For most of my life, addiction controlled me. After losing my father to su***de, I began selling drugs at a young age and was eventually sentenced to six years in prison for my criminal activity. Through a boot camp program, I was given a second chance and released early after serving only 17.5 months.

Coming home wasn’t easy. I experienced relapse, but I refused to let my past define my future. I have been in recovery since April 2022.

While I was incarcerated, my mother repeatedly reminded me, “FEAR means two things: Forget Everything And Run, or Face Everything And Rise.” Those words became a way of life.

In January 2025, I lost my son, Jared, to fentanyl. That pain could have destroyed me. Instead, I turned it into a purpose. I began giving out Narcan, advocating for fentanyl awareness and founded Jared Heart 26 to honor my son and everyone lost to addiction.

Today, I stand in recovery, trusted by my family and committed to helping others find their way out. I never believed I could become the person I am today. Now I know recovery is possible and I’m here to help the next person believe it, too.

Welcome to EOSIS, Rafael Lewis!

We’re pleased to welcome Rafael Lewis, MA, LADC, to EOSIS as the new Treatment Director for EOSIS Lake Shore and EOSIS Cedar Ridge!

Rafael brings extensive clinical and administrative leadership experience in substance use disorder and co-occurring disorder treatment. A licensed alcohol and drug counselor and doctoral student in Counseling Psychology at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, where he is pursuing his Psy.D., Rafael’s approach is grounded in evidence-based practice, organizational effectiveness and clinical accountability.

We’re excited to have Rafael’s experience and leadership supporting the teams and individuals we serve at Lake Shore and Cedar Ridge.

Welcome to EOSIS, Jim Lorge!

We’re excited to welcome Jim Lorge to EOSIS as the new Treatment Director for EOSIS New Beginnings!

Jim brings more than 15 years of experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, leadership and staff development. His connection to New Beginnings makes this new role especially meaningful. Jim graduated from the New Beginnings program in 2006 and is a person in long-term recovery himself.

Jim is passionate about building strong teams and creating an environment where people feel supported, respected and empowered to reach their recovery goals. He believes lasting change happens through connection, hope, accountability and meeting people where they are.

We’re grateful to have Jim bringing his professional experience, lived perspective and passion for recovery to the EOSIS team. Please join us in welcoming Jim!
