Welcome to the 2026 RWJBarnabas Health Student Nurse Externs!

This summer, we proudly welcome 100+ nursing students from across the region for an immersive clinical experience designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional nursing practice. Over the next 10 weeks, each extern will be paired one-on-one with an experienced RN preceptor, providing individualized mentorship, guidance, and hands-on learning opportunities in a variety of specialty areas.

Through direct patient care experiences, interdisciplinary collaboration, and exposure to the culture of nursing excellence that defines RWJBarnabas Health, these future nurses will build the skills, confidence, and professional relationships that will help shape their careers. We’re excited to support their journey and invest in the next generation of nursing professionals!

Our Community Health Team was proud to partner with North Stelton AME Church for a successful Spring Health Fair in Piscataway. With 250 attendees, the event connected community members with health screenings, resources, and education provided by many of our dedicated team members.

Congratulations to the 11 registered nurses who graduated from our OR Foundations Program! Over the past 39 weeks, they worked hard to develop the skills needed to become safe and competent scrub and circulating nurses. We are so proud of their growth and all they have accomplished.

Last week, our Comprehensive Stroke Center Team hosted its 4th annual Get Stroke Smart event to close out National Stroke Awareness Month. We enjoyed interactive games, screenings, education stations and healthy snacks. RWJUH President Alan Lee was also there to read the proclamation by the City of New Brunswick declaring that the city is Stroke Smart.

In April, at the New York American Urological Association (AUA) meeting, Jen Sykes, MD, a urology resident at the medical school, won first place in the NY AUA Valentine Essay Competition for her video presentation "Single Port Robotic Right Renal Artery Exposure for Vascular Right Renal Artery Stent Placement".

The video was presented on her behalf, by Umar Ghaffar, MD.
