Sondra Stephens Cline, age 77, of New Castle, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 11th, 2026 in Indianapolis.

Sondra graduated from New Castle Chrysler High School and spent nearly 40 years of her career within the Henry County healthcare system. She enjoyed spending time with family, feeding all animals that came into her world, attending family sporting events and activities, and driving around exploring many parks in the area.

Sondra is survived by her son Shane (Alisa) Cline, four siblings - Vickie (Roger) McGinnis, Mike Stephens, Pat (Brenda) Stephens, and Penny Gauker, grandchildren Emily (Cade) Luker and Sophia (Tobin) Metzger, nephew Kenny (Kelsi) Stephens, great-nephew and niece Kohen and Raely Stephens, and many other special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents Leita ( Clarence Wilson) and Edward Stephens, she was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Cline, sister Beverly (Steve) Schetgen, and brother Kenneth Stephens.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16th, from 5-7 PM at Sproles Family Funeral Home, followed immediately by the funeral service at 7 PM.

Vera Darlene Hodson, 69, of New Paris, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Wednesday morning, October 7, 2026, at home.

She was born on November 19, 1956, in Richmond, Indiana, the daughter of the late Donald Wilt.

Vera was a 1974 graduate of Centerville High School and attended IU East and Earlham College in Richmond. She spent several years working for area banks, beginning as a teller and later working primarily in accounting and auditing.

One of Vera’s favorite activities was managing the Preble County Lost and Found Pets page, helping reunite beloved pets with their families. She also enjoyed tending her flowers, her rock garden, and what she called her “revenge trees.” Above all, she treasured spending time with her grandchildren.

Vera had a personality all her own. She was strong-willed, spoke her mind, and could have a tough exterior, but beneath was a warm and caring heart. She loved helping others, and when someone needed a hand, Vera was there.

Those left to cherish Vera’s memory include her husband of 34 years, Tom Hodson; her children, Jon Wilt of Greenville, Ohio, Jesse (Sascha) Garn of Union City, Ohio, and Lisa Garn of Lake Lakengren, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Donovan, Thomas, Bobbie Ann, and Christopher Wilt, Kaliegh Thiebeau, Cloie Marie Darlene, Isaac, Cassie, and Sophia Garn; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Wilt of New Jersey; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Joann Hickman, 72, of Greenfield, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the afternoon of Sunday, September 27, 2026, following a brief illness.

Joann was born on November 10, 1953, in Jonesville, Virginia, a daughter of the late Joseph Nelson Blazier II and Princillo June Blazier.

Joann was a woman of deep faith who loved the Lord and sought to serve Him faithfully throughout her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who always seemed to think of others before herself. Her gentle spirit, caring heart, and steadfast faith were a blessing to all who knew her.

Joann met the love of her life, Stephen Hickman, at God’s Bible School and College in Cincinnati, Ohio, and they were married on July 28, 1972. For 54 years, she faithfully stood beside her husband, not only as his loving wife but also as his devoted ministry companion. Together, they shared a life of serving the Lord and ministering to others. Joann was a wonderful helpmate to Stephen and faithfully supported him throughout his years of pastoral ministry.

Joann earned a bachelor’s degree from Hobe Sound Bible College and worked for many years as an administrative secretary. Her organizational gifts, dependability, and willingness to serve were evident in every part of her life.

Judith Lavonne Bell, 87, of Muncie, went home to be with the Lord early on the morning of Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Morrison Woods Health Campus.

J. Lavonne Estep was born in Morehead, Kentucky, to Vada (Estep) Phillips on January 16, 1939.

She spent her early years growing up in the rolling hills of Kentucky, surrounded by a large extended family and an extra-special aunt and uncle, Eunice (Estep) (Merlin) Jacobs. Eunice was a young girl still living at home and was more like a second mom to Lavonne. When Lavonne was seven years old, she moved to Muncie, Indiana. Many people from the South were coming to Muncie for employment, and her mother, Vada, worked at Ball Corporation. Many of Vada’s siblings moved north from Kentucky. Her sister Eunice also settled in Muncie, where she watched Lavonne grow up and shared in the milestones along the way.

Lavonne graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1958. Family and friends called her “Von.” She was the epitome of a 1950s teen and was an excellent baton twirler. She enjoyed sock hops and was a talented dancer, both on the dance floor and on roller skates, even after having children. Lavonne often worked after school to earn money. At one time, she was a carhop, taking orders and serving food and drinks, all while on her skates. She loved music—Elvis, Buddy Holly, and Fats Domino, to name a few. Rev. John “Keith” Gibson, 88, of Shoals, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on the evening of Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at home with his loving family by his side.

He was born on August 17, 1938, in New Madrid, Missouri, a son of the late Victor Willard and LaVena Eloise (Finn) Gibson.

Keith graduated from Wardell High School in Missouri in 1956 and attended God’s Bible School and College in Cincinnati, Ohio. On July 11, 1958, he married the love of his life and faithful ministry partner, Neoma (Palmer) Gibson.

Rev. Gibson devoted his life to serving the Lord and caring for others as a pastor for over 50 years. He loved preaching and served churches in the Wesleyan Holiness and Pilgrim Holiness Conferences in Beulah Heights, KY; LaJunta, CO; Blackwell and Ponca City, OK; Hiawatha, KS, Mahomet, IL; Lisbon and Salem, OH; Franklin, PA; and Frankfort, Ft. Wayne, and, most recently, Shoals, IN, where he served for 17 years.

Keith was a humble servant of the Lord with an easy presence that put others at ease. His wonderful sense of humor brought warmth to conversations, and his faithfulness was evident throughout his years of ministry. When he had time to himself, he enjoyed riding horses and reading.

In Loving Memory of Betty Massey Newton

Betty Massey Newton’s life will be remembered for many beautiful reasons, but above all for her intentional, unwavering love for family. Her husband, Earl Newton, was at the center of that love, followed by her five children, their spouses, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty spent her life serving her family and her Savior, Jesus Christ, and all who knew her experienced the warmth and constancy of that love. As 1 Corinthians 13:13 reminds us, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Final days surrounded by family

Betty passed peacefully on September 21, 2026, at the age of 91, in Muncie, Indiana, supported by family and exceptional hospice caregivers. In the days leading up to her passing, family gathered from Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois to spend precious time with her. Because music was a centerpiece of Betty’s life, singing and worship became a meaningful part of those final days together.

Ruth “Ann” Miller, 80, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, as a result of complications following a planned surgery.

She was born on August 7, 1946, in New Castle, Indiana, a daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Pea) Bowen.

Ann possessed an incredible work ethic and devoted many years to serving her community through several different careers. She worked as the Classified Advertising Manager at The Courier-Times and as a Realtor with Crossroads Real Estate. She also especially enjoyed her time working at Every Good Thing Flowers and Gifts.

Although Ann was a dedicated and hardworking woman, her family was always the most important part of her life. She worked tirelessly to ensure that those she loved were cared for and had everything they needed. Her love for her family was evident in all that she did.

Ann enjoyed thrift shopping and had a special talent for finding a good deal. She was a wonderful woman with a beautiful soul and will be remembered as a deeply loving mother.

Danny E. Isaacs, 83, of New Castle, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by those he loved, and the cat, on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

He was born on December 5, 1942, in Richmond, Indiana, a son of the late Elzie Lee “Shorty” and Sally (Williams) Isaacs.

Danny was a 1961 graduate of Richmond High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and courageously served two tours in Vietnam. Following his active-duty service, he continued serving his country through the Indiana National Guard for 11 years and then he spent 24 years in the Indiana Guard Reserve.

A gifted craftsman, Danny was a master at working with steel and seemed able to make it do whatever he wanted. He especially enjoyed rebuilding cars, often beginning with little more than a frame and patiently restoring the entire vehicle. His love for motorcycles and automobiles remained with him throughout his life.

Danny was ornery, fun-loving, and always ready to play a joke on someone. A true adrenaline ju**ie, he had a lifelong need for speed. He raced motorcycles at Muncie Dragway and famously crashed at 125 miles per hour near the finish line. In true Danny fashion, he later joked that he was probably the only racer to cross the finish line before his motorcycle did.

Danny worked as a welder for Chrysler Corporation for more than 31 years before retiring. For the past 30 years, he also looked forward to escaping Indiana and spending the winter season in...

Early in the morning of Sunday, August 30, 2026, Marcia June Schmitt passed away. She was 88.

She was born on February 26, 1938, to Helen and Floyd Templin. Graduating from Colon High School in 1956. She married Kenneth Schmitt on April 8, 1961. They had four children. Theodore Schmitt (Kelly), Karin Schmitt, Kathy Buck (Greg), and Gretchen Swapp (George).

She taught Third grade at St. Anne Parish School for a few years in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. She was a member of St. Anne’s church for many years.

Marcia loved playing cards, watching game shows, and going to garage sales. She collected many, many things.

She had six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Luis Templin (Kathie), as well as her husband, Kenneth. She leaves behind a brother, Thomas Templin (Lori), all her children, and many nieces and nephews.

May she rest in peace and always have the winning hand.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Sproles Family Funeral Home, with burial following at St. Anne Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
