Our Clinic of the Week is Brookside Veterinary Hospital in Gig Harbor, WA!

This locally-owned practice's priorities are simple: Giving each patient the best care every time and making a difference in the life of every pet parent.

Dr. Justine Zingsheim-Nadeu leads this five-doctor practice that provides an extensive list of services that includes behavior counseling, diagnostics, cryo, urgent care, senior care, ferret and guinea pig care, dentistry, and now laser therapy.

They recently added the Companion CTS DUO+ to safely and non-invasively treat over 80 acute and chronic conditions in pets, plus a Stance Analyzer to objectively and accurately measure progress during treatment plans.

They even put together this helpful video to explain how the treatment works for pet parents: https://hubs.ly/Q04khX3c0

🐾 Companion laser therapy helps pets like four-month-old puppy Sully recover quickly from wounds- check out the amazing progression in these photos. πŸ•

He was being treated for canine parvovirtus when he developed an abscess over his thorax. Surgical debridement of the abscess was performed, wound management began, and he was given 20 laser treatments over 29 days.

The owner is grateful that laser therapy allowed the wound to quickly heal with minimal scarring despite its location in a mobile area on a very active puppy 🐢

Laser therapy can be extremely beneficial in veterinary practices to enhance recovery, manage post-operative pain, and improve outcomes after a patient has completed surgery.

This video explains how it works from veterinarians that use it, briefly walking through applications in pre-operation, intra-op, and post-op for various surgical cases that include neurotomies, cystotomies, and foreign body removals.

You'll see how class IV laser therapy leads to positive results far beyond just rehab and osteoarthritis.

It will help you understand the benefits of incorporating laser therapy into your daily practice and educating clients (or team members) about its effectiveness in improving overall surgical care.

[Case Study]
Watch how Gus, a 13-year-old Cockapoo with sudden onset paresis of both hind legs, got back on his feet after two weeks of photobiomodulation (laser) therapy from the great team at West End Veterinary Clinic in Henrico, VA.

After a physical examination revealed rear limb paresis and proprioceptive deficits bilaterally- a presumed IVDD diagnosis- the team applied laser therapy to deliver consistent, non-invasive support to Gus's spine, which gave his humans their dog back.

Picking the right treatment head for the right condition is one of the most important and underappreciated aspects of photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy.

Deciding whether to treat a condition on-contact or off-contact can dramatically influence photon pe*******on, dose delivery, patient comfort, and, ultimately, clinical outcomes.

For example, one cadaver study that evaluated light pe*******on into the spinal canal of large-breed dogs demonstrated nearly a 70% increase in pe*******on when an on-contact technique was used compared to non-contact delivery.

As PBM becomes more widely integrated into veterinary practice for musculoskeletal disease, wound healing, dentistry, neurology, and rehabilitation, understanding these practical application principles is essential for veterinarians and technicians alike.

Understanding when and why to use each approach helps maximize photon delivery, improve treatment consistency, and optimize patient outcomes.
