Curious what the process of getting your insurance to cover your breast reduction & lift looks like?

Step 1 - Personalized Medical Consult: Dr. Mehta carefully evaluates your breast size, anatomy, and the physical symptoms you are experiencing. He reviews chronic pain, skin irritation, posture concerns, activity limitations, and prior conservative treatments.

Step 2 - Clinical Records & Imaging: During your consultation Dr. Mehta documents clinical findings, including shoulder grooving, irritation, postural strain, and other signs associated with breast weight.

Step 3 - Detailed Medical Necessity Letter: Dr. Mehta prepares a medical necessity letter outlining your symptoms, physical findings, and the estimated amount of tissue to be removed. The letter explains how reduction may improve function, comfort, and daily activities.

Step 4 - Pre-Authorization Management: Once all the medical records are complete, Dr. Mehta’s team submits the required medical documentation to your insurance provider for preauthorization. They coordinate directly with the insurer, monitor the review process, and keep you informed at each step

Step 5 - Appeals Guidance: Appeals Guidance
If insurance coverage is initially denied, Dr. Mehta’s office assists with the appeals process by providing additional records, updated documentation, or supplemental letters as needed.

Recovery after breast reduction is often easier than patients expect. Most of my patients are off pain medication within 2 to 3 days and can return to work in as little as a week. The key is simply wearing a soft surgical bra to support healing.

A tummy tuck is a great option for patients who have excess skin or weakened abdominal muscles, often after pregnancy or major weight loss.

It’s not a weight-loss procedure. It’s about contouring the body and repairing the abdominal wall so the stomach looks tighter and flatter.

Dr. Mehta usually recommends that patients be close to their goal weight and done having children before moving forward with a tummy tuck.

A breast reduction isn’t solely about decreasing size. it’s also about reshaping the breasts for a more balanced and youthful contour.

During the procedure, excess tissue is removed, and the remaining breast is reshaped, with the ni**le repositioned to a higher, more natural location.

This comprehensive approach alleviates discomfort and enhances aesthetics, offering both physical relief and an aesthetically pleasing silhouette.

Discreet scars are very important for patients undergoing breast augmentation (or any procedure).

Dr. Mehta carefully plans exactly where the incision will go prior to surgery so they hide nicely in the crease.

Dr. Mehta always considers each patient's unique anatomy and implant choice when deciding on placement.

Insurance coverage for breast reduction is typically based on medical necessity rather than appearance alone.

Each plan has specific criteria, but approval generally depends on clear documentation showing that symptoms are significant, ongoing, and related to breast size despite non-surgical care.

One of the most common questions patients ask is how we ensure symmetry during their breast reduction & lift.

During surgery, patients are positioned upright (sometimes more than once) to compare both breasts. Not only for size, but for shape and to see how they naturally fall.

Breasts can look very differnet lying flat versus upright which is why this step is essential for achieving the most balanced, natural-looking results possible.

One of the things that we do at our practice that helps patients recover from breast augmentation surgery faster is injecting a long-acting anesthetic directly into the muscle during the procedure.

Exparel, is an anesthetic that lasts for about 72 hours which helps patients get through the most challenging part of the recovery (in terms of discomfort).

In fact, most patients are able to use only Tylenol or Advil during their recovery because of the long-lasting effects of Exparel.
