With dementia, what looks like “difficult behavior” may be the only way someone knows how to communicate that something is wrong.

Before reacting, take a second and look a little deeper. What could they be trying to tell you?

You don’t have to completely fall apart before you admit this is becoming too much.

Sometimes you’re still doing everything you’re supposed to do. Nobody is missing an appointment. Everybody is fed. The calls are being made. Things are getting handled.

But who’s checking on the person doing all the handling?
Being able to keep going doesn’t always mean you’re okay. Sometimes it just means you’ve gotten really good at functioning while exhausted. 💜

Sometimes “there’s no help” really means you haven’t found the right help yet.

There are programs, benefits, services and community resources that families go years without knowing exist. And no, every resource won’t fit every family but one right connection can take something off your plate that you thought you had to keep carrying.

Don’t stop at the doors that already closed. There may still be another one you haven’t found yet. 💜

Sometimes the break isn’t the hard part. Enjoying it is.
You finally get a few hours to yourself and somehow your mind is still back home. Then you catch yourself actually enjoying the time away… and here comes the guilt.

You can love somebody deeply and still miss your old life sometimes. You can be grateful for the break AND wish you had more of them.

That doesn’t take away from the love or care you give every single day. 💜

Hearing “they’re coming home” can be the best news. 💜
It means they’re doing better. They’re leaving the hospital. They’re coming back where you wanted them all along.
But sometimes that’s also when the pressure starts creeping back in.

What if something happens? What if I miss something? Can I handle this? What if they’re not ready? What if I’m not ready?
You can be genuinely happy they’re coming home and still feel nervous about everything that comes with it. Both can be true.

Sometimes asking for help isn’t easy at all.
You’ve gotten so used to being the person everybody depends on that asking someone else to step in can almost feel uncomfortable. So you type the message, erase it, rewrite it… and decide you’ll just handle it yourself.
But needing help doesn’t make you any less dependable. Even the person who holds everything together deserves to put something down sometimes. 💜
