Finding some special rocks and fossils to bring home!

Finding tiny “special” rocks among ordinary ones is an excellent way to challenge kids to think flexibly. These are natural objects that lack predetermined rules that separate them easily.

Sorting and comparing them boosts early STEM cognition, fine motor skills, and creative problem-solving, all while fostering a sense of wonder and connection to nature.

Creating bark boats!

Today we made boats from tree bark, then explored their ability to stay afloat!

We added sand, rocks, silicone baking cups, and other objects to text their abilities to stay afloat.

This fun activity is an easy way to introduce scientific reasoning. By observing buoyancy, kids develop critical thinking through hypothesizing, testing, and classifying objects.

It also promotes critical thinking and teamwork.

Watching the little@toad we captured today swim 💕

finding critters and bugs is one of the favorite things in our day!

In the process we learn how to care for other living things, be gentle and kind so that we don’t hurt them, and learn about their habitats so we can understand them and take good care of them.

Today there was so much excitement to see this little toad swim across our small pool! 💕
