Our hearts remain with every child, family, first responder, and community member affected by these recent events. The Healing Center’s licensed clinicians are here to provide a safe and supportive place to process grief, trauma, fear, and other difficult emotions. We are also able to offer therapy services at The Ranch for those who may feel more comfortable in its peaceful and familiar setting. Please know that you and your family do not have to walk through this alone. We are here for our community and ready to help.

Our community has experienced an overwhelming amount of heartbreak recently.

We are grieving the tragic loss of a two-year-old child, saddened by the racist words and behavior reported at a local high school football game, and mourning the six-year-old child who lost their life in a school bus tragedy.

In a short period of time, our community has lost two young children. As adults, we may be struggling to process these losses ourselves, but we also need to remember that our children are watching, listening, and trying to make sense of what has happened. They may feel scared, confused, angry, or deeply sad.

We encourage parents and caregivers to check in with their children, listen without judgment, answer questions honestly in an age-appropriate way, and limit repeated exposure to upsetting news or social media. Maintaining familiar routines can help children feel secure. Remind them that their feelings are okay and that they are safe, loved, and supported. If you notice ongoing changes in your child’s sleep, behavior, mood, or sense of safety, it may be time to seek additional support.

Racism is never acceptable, and there is no place for it in our schools, at community events, or anywhere else. We must speak up against racism and harmful behavior while teaching our children the importance of respect, compassion, and standing up for others.

Our hearts are with the families whose lives have been forever changed, the students who were targeted, and everyone carrying the emotional weight of these events. We are also deeply grateful to the first responders, school personnel, mental health professionals, and community members who have stepped forward to provide care and support during these difficult moments.

May we respond not only with words, but with compassion, accountability, and a renewed commitment to taking care of one another.

At The Ranch, we believe healing begins when people feel safe, supported, and connected. If you or someone you know needs therapy services or additional support, our licensed clinicians are here to help.

Please be gentle with yourselves, hold your loved ones close, and remember that no one in our community has to carry this pain alone.

Today, after 10 years in the same building, The Healing Center moved into a new location here in New Lenox. Welcoming the Healing Center to our new home at 400 E Lincoln Highway.

As exciting as this next chapter is, leaving was harder than I expected. That building holds so many memories of the incredible therapists and office staff who have been part of The Healing Center throughout the years. Every person played an important role in helping us grow, supporting our clients, and making The Healing Center a safe and welcoming place.

I am proud of every therapist and office staff member I have had the opportunity to work with. I am so grateful for their hard work, dedication, and the quality care and support they have provided to our clients and this community.

Over the past 10 years, I have learned so much and grown alongside The Healing Center and the New Lenox community that I love. Together, we have helped so many people and provided a safe place for those who needed us during difficult times.

Seeing the building one last time in my side view mirror felt like the perfect picture for this moment. I will always appreciate the memories and everything that brought us to where we are today, but I am also excited about what is ahead.

One chapter is ending, but our journey is only beginning. We are still in New Lenox, still committed to this community, and excited to welcome everyone into our new home. 💚

We’re pretty proud of our founder. 💚

At The Healing Center, Shelley Skas, LCPC, spends her days helping guide our clinical team, supervising therapists, and making sure the children, teens, adults, and families we serve receive thoughtful, individualized mental health care.

But her work doesn’t stop inside the therapy room.

With a background that includes law school, two master’s degrees, and years of clinical experience, Shelley has also had the opportunity to provide mental health and de-escalation training to police, fire personnel, and most recently, members of the United States Secret Service.

We love seeing the knowledge and experience that helps shape our team at The Healing Center being carried into the larger community.

Proud of our founder. Proud of our team. Proud of the work we get to do every day. 💚

We’re proud to recognize our founder, Shelley Skas, LCPC, for the leadership, experience, and knowledge she continues to bring to The Healing Center and beyond.

With a background that includes law school, two master’s degrees, and years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Shelley has helped build The Healing Center around one core goal: providing thoughtful, individualized mental health care to the people and families we serve.

Over the years, our clinicians have had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families with a wide range of mental health needs. Shelley’s experience as a clinician and supervisor continues to shape the way our team approaches care, communication, crisis situations, and professional growth.

That same experience has also allowed her to provide mental health, crisis-response, and de-escalation training to law enforcement, fire personnel, and most recently, members of the United States Secret Service.

We’re proud to have a founder who not only leads and supports our clinical team, but continues to use her experience to help other professionals better understand and respond to mental health needs in the communities they serve.

Thank you Lincoln Way ❣️❣️❣️❣️

We are beyond grateful to announce that The Healing Center’s New Lenox office has been voted

🗳️The Best Mental Health Clinic in the 2026 Best of Lincoln-Way Readers’ Choice Awards ❣️

This recognition means so much because it comes from the community we have had the privilege of serving every day.

Thank you to every client, family member, colleague, friend, and community partner who placed their trust in us and took the time to vote.

💐 🔟🕙 More than ten years ago, The Healing Center expanded from Orland Park into New Lenox with a simple goal: to bring additional mental health services to a growing community.

At the time, there were limited resources in the area, and we believed that individuals and families deserved greater access to compassionate, high-quality care.

⏳Over the past decade, that vision has grown into an incredible team dedicated to supporting children, teens, adults, and families throughout the Lincoln-Way area. As we prepare to move into our new New Lenox location this September, we remain committed to the mission that inspired this expansion from the very beginning: creating a place where people feel supported, understood, and empowered to heal and grow.

We are honored by this award and excited for the next chapter.

💙 With gratitude,

✨The Healing Center Team✨
