Hey ladies; I wanna talk about a condition that has impacted me personally & I very much understand the impact of it on our mental health!
PMOS (formerly known as PCOS) is changing the conversation around women’s health — and all mental health professionals need to be part of it.
Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) recognizes what many women have experienced all along: this condition impacts far more than reproductive health. It affects hormones, metabolism, emotional wellbeing, body image, relationships, stress levels, and quality of life.
Women living with PMOS are more likely to experience:
✨ Anxiety
✨ Depression
✨ Disordered eating
✨ Chronic stress and burnout
✨ Body image distress
✨ Shame connected to fertility, weight, or appearance
For therapists and counselors, this matters deeply.
Many clients with PMOS carry years of medical dismissal, confusion, and emotional exhaustion. It can take years to get a correct diagnosis!!! Therapy can become a space for validation, healing, and rebuilding trust with their bodies.
Mental health care for women with PMOS may include:
🌿 Processing medical trauma and invalidation
🌿 Addressing perfectionism and shame
🌿 Supporting identity and fertility-related grief
🌿 Building sustainable coping skills
🌿 Navigating the emotional impact of chronic symptoms
This name change is bigger than terminology. It reflects a more holistic understanding of women’s health — one that includes mental health as essential, not secondary.
Women with PMOS deserve integrated, compassionate care.
