Last night, Kate Carlile, Director of Community Relations at Care At Home, and her son Mason had the pleasure of attending Victoria Court Memory Care's Longest Day BBQ Bingo Event in support of the Alzheimer's Association Rhode Island Chapter. 💜

It was wonderful to see the community come together for an evening of fun, connection, and fundraising. Congratulations to Victoria Court Memory Care on hosting a successful event and raising $800 to support Alzheimer's care, research, and awareness.

Thank you to Victoria Court Memory Care for the invitation and for your continued commitment to supporting those affected by Alzheimer's disease. We are grateful to have been part of such a meaningful event.

❤️ "Mom needs more help than she used to."

It's a realization that many families come to gradually.

Maybe your loved one is needing assistance more often throughout the day. Perhaps they're becoming unsteady on their feet, forgetting medications, or simply shouldn't be left alone for long periods of time anymore.

For many families, this is the moment when worry starts to creep in.

"What do we do next?"

"What are our options?"

"Does this mean Mom has to leave her home?"

The truth is that growing care needs don't always mean a move to assisted living or a nursing home.

For many seniors, there may be options that allow them to continue living safely and comfortably in the place they love most—their own home.

At Care at Home, we help families navigate these decisions every day. We know how overwhelming it can feel, and we believe that understanding your options is the first step toward finding peace of mind.

That's why we've put together a new blog discussing:

🏡 When hourly care may no longer be enough

🤝 How live-in care works

❤️ The benefits of one-on-one support at home

📋 How to determine what level of care may be right for your loved one

Whether your family is facing these decisions today or simply planning for the future, we hope this resource helps.

☀️ Care At Home Insights: The Importance of Hydration During Hot Weather ☀️

With the summer heat upon us, staying hydrated is more important than ever—especially for older adults.

As we age, our sense of thirst naturally decreases, making it easier for seniors to become dehydrated without even realizing it. Dehydration can lead to dizziness, confusion, weakness, urinary tract infections, increased fall risk, and even hospitalization.

Here are a few simple ways to help keep your loved one hydrated:

💧 Offer water regularly throughout the day, even if they don’t feel thirsty.

🍉 Include water-rich foods such as watermelon, strawberries, cucumbers, and oranges.

🥤 Keep a favorite cup or water bottle nearby as a reminder to drink.

☀️ Limit time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day.

👀 Watch for signs of dehydration such as dry mouth, fatigue, dizziness, headaches, or dark-colored urine.

At Care At Home, our caregivers help encourage hydration, monitor for signs of dehydration, and support seniors in maintaining their health and independence throughout the summer months.

A simple glass of water can make a big difference.

How do you encourage your loved one to stay hydrated during the summer? Share your tips below!

Yesterday we hosted the Southeastern Senior Network meeting and shared the work of our Waterford Cares team. As Rob Brule assumed his office, the pandemic struck and he had the foresight to think ahead by launching Waterford Cares: a coordinated team approach that brings together multiple municipal departments and organizations to work together to help residents rebuild their lives, get resources, receive support and find hope. The team has met weekly for over 5 years and many lives have been touched. This was the first time the team met publicly to share their work (no names were exchanged) and the impact it has had on our community and each other.

A huge thank you to the Waterford Senior Services, CT for hosting us and sharing the many programs, services, and resources available to seniors throughout our community. We were also fortunate to hear from an amazing panel of professionals dedicated to improving the lives of seniors and their families. The collaboration, networking, and meaningful conversations made for a truly impactful event.

Thank you to everyone who attended and continues to support our mission of connecting senior-serving professionals and strengthening resources for older adults in Southeastern Connecticut.

We look forward to seeing you at our next SSN meeting hosted by Atria Crossroads Place on July 8th 4pm-5:30pm. Please RSVP to [email protected]. Thank you!
