🥒🌱 Harvest Day in the Backyard Garden 🌱🥒

One of my favorite ways to support my health is by growing some of my own food. Today, I picked these fresh cucumbers straight from the garden!

Did you know cucumbers are made up of about 95% water? That makes them an excellent choice for hydration, especially during the summer months. They’re also low in calories, contain fiber to support digestion, and provide antioxidants that help protect your cells from everyday stress.

As I always say, good health doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with simple habits like spending time outdoors, growing your own food, and filling your plate with more fresh fruits and vegetables.

Do you grow anything in your garden? Let me know below! 👇🌿

Sounds healthy”… but is it actually evidence-based? 👀

In a world full of wellness tips, trends, and “quick fixes,” it’s easy to assume popular = proven. But that’s not always the case.

✨ Real health is rooted in science, not just sound bites.
✨ What works for one person on social media may not be safe—or effective—for you.
✨ The goal isn’t perfection… it’s informed decisions.

As a physician, I’m here to help you cut through the noise and understand what truly supports your health.

💬 Before you try it, ask: Is it evidence-based?

Discipline > motivation. Every time.

Your body is your greatest asset—more valuable than anything you own. You don’t skip maintenance on what matters… so why skip on yourself?

Regular exercise can reduce your risk of chronic disease by up to 30%.

This isn’t optional. This is non-negotiable.

Even on the days you don’t feel like it… show up anyway.

That’s where the results live.

Do you work out even when you don’t feel like it?

A major update in the latest AHA/ACC cholesterol guidelines is changing how we think about heart disease prevention.

The focus is shifting toward:
• Earlier screening and intervention
• Lower LDL targets for higher-risk patients
• More personalized risk assessment
• Looking beyond standard cholesterol panels to identify hidden risk

These changes reflect a growing emphasis on preventing cardiovascular disease before it starts, rather than treating it after the fact.

I’ll be breaking this down and discussing what it means for you and your health.

Tune in tomorrow morning on WDSU News to watch the full segment.

Thirty minutes of movement can do more than you think.

Moderate-intensity exercise—like a brisk walk, a run, or a morning skate—has been shown to support mood in ways comparable to antidepressants for mild to moderate depression… and in some cases, even more.

Consistency is key: 30–60 minutes, 4–5 times a week, can help shift your brain chemistry, elevating the same neurotransmitters targeted by medication.

Proof that sometimes, the most powerful medicine is simply showing up for yourself. ✨

I’m honored to receive the Award for Excellence in Precepting from Tulane University’s Department of Family Medicine.

It’s a privilege to help guide the next generation of physicians as they discover the depth, purpose, and impact of family medicine. Teaching reminds me that medicine is a lifelong journey; one where we are always learning, growing, and evolving. While I may serve as a teacher in these moments, I remain a student of medicine every single day.

Thank you to for the opportunity, and to the incredible medical students who trust me to be a small part of their journey toward becoming thoughtful, compassionate physicians. Your dedication inspires me just as much as I hope to inspire you.
