One of my favourite quotes is ‘life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans’ and that pretty much sums up my 100K.
Training and trip planning were paused early April when Madison spent 10 days in the hospital fighting two viruses. We knew she would bounce back with a little support but didn’t feel as confident about our travel plans a few weeks later. and I try to have the mindset of ‘don’t give up, adapt and make it work’ so we decided to swap a 2.5hr flight for a 2.5 day drive.
When I hit the second half of the race and things stopped going as planned (body wasn’t bad but I bonked out and had no energy) I had to find a similar mindset and after an hour of negotiating, the same message came out ‘don’t give up, adapt and make it work’.
That shifted my expectations and I was able to enjoy it more (well, as much as you can enjoy running for 15hrs), soak in the experience and have so much gratitude for family, friends and everyone who showed support (shout out )!
