This National Pediatric Nurses Week, we’re celebrating the nurses who make Manning Family Children’s what it is. Today, we’re shining a light on two leaders in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where the smallest and most fragile babies in Louisiana grow, heal, and thrive.
🎉Congratulations to our Excellence in Nursing Leadership award winner, Jacqueline Schnapp, RN🎉
As NICU Clinical Director, Jacqueline leads more than 100 nurses caring for upwards of 40 critically ill babies at a time. Her staff describe her as calm, decisive, and compassionate—even on the busiest days. Jacqueline has helped drive quality and safety improvements that strengthen outcomes for our tiniest patients, including infant-driven feeding and developmental care initiatives. She encourages her team to look beyond the task at hand and understand how every practice shapes a baby’s care and a family’s experience. In a unit that can be emotionally and physically demanding, she makes sure every nurse feels valued and connected to the team.
🎉And congratulations to our Outstanding Community Involvement award winner, Brenna Huggins, RN🎉
Brenna is a night shift nurse who makes sure families leave the NICU with the confidence and resources they need. On her own time, she became a certified car seat safety technician, making her the only nurse on the NICU unit who can help families safely bring their medically fragile babies home. She shares that knowledge with families in our hospital and throughout the community. Brenna also leads our Kangaroo Care Committee, promoting the powerful benefits of skin-to-skin contact for babies and parents. During Kangaroo Care Week this May, she organized a Kangaroo-a-thon that brought families together to celebrate those precious moments of closeness.
Congratulations, Jacqueline and Brenna, and thank you for the care, leadership, and heart you bring to our NICU families every day and night. 👶🍼
