Rose Mancini

Rose Marie Mancini, born February 7, 1942, in Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away mercifully and peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 30, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Known by her close friends as the “Energizer Bunnie,” she was active in service to her profession, her church, and her community.

Rose received her nursing degree from Union Memorial School of Nursing and later her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Louisiana State University. She rose through the ranks of nursing, serving at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Charity Hospital of New Orleans, and the Veterans Administration Hospital in New Orleans. At the VA, she built her reputation as an infection control specialist. She was a national consultant for the VA Health System and retired from the VA as the head of infection control for the entire system.

During the Cold War, Rose traveled all over the country to be trained and train others in response to biological, chemical, and nuclear attacks. She developed protocols for Best Practices at hospitals, clinics, and military bases. No doubt, there are seasoned physicians practicing today who learned surgical and clinical sterile techniques as interns and residents from the tall, red-headed nurse who fiercely protected her patients.

Rose met and married her first husband, Gunther “Dutch” Herbert Seutter in 1984, and, in addition to her nursing career, was his partner and helpmate, operating Fritzel’s European Jazz Pub in the New Orleans French Quarter. Rose was known for her gracious hospitality to musicians, regulars, and visitors alike. In later years, when Dutch’s health began declining, Rose nursed him with the same caring and professionalism she gave her patients until he died in 2003.

When she retired from the VA, her caring spirit and her exceptional knowledge of health care led her to work and support the New Orleans Musicians Clinic, an organization that provided access to healthcare for musicians, artists, and culture bearers in the Greater New Orleans area.

She honored Dutch’s German heritage through her involvement with the Deutsches Haus in New Orleans. She served as president of the Ladies Auxiliary from 2009 to 2024 and as a member of the Haus board of directors for five years. Rose was beloved for her generous spirit, providing hundreds of cakes and decorated cookies for Oktoberfest, Christmas celebrations, and Friday Trivia Nights.

She was known for her engaging presentations on German heritage and, despite her illness, had planned another for July. Her proudest accomplishment and greatest joy was establishing and growing the annual Christkindlmarkt.

Rose was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in New Orleans. She put her mark on almost every social event by coordinating potluck lunches, decorating for Christmas, caring for the grounds, and making everyone feel welcome. Her faith was based on her love for Christ, which translated into an abundant love for all people. Rose was not one to judge but delighted in ministry through hospitality.

She served on the Church Council in various roles and was counted on in almost every area of church life. She served as the lay representative to the Conference and was supportive of St. Luke’s becoming a Reconciling Congregation. She was true to her Lord and her chosen church in everything she did in her life. People were drawn to her, and she was inclusive of everyone, no matter what their background.

Rose was predeceased by her parents, Anthony Mancini and Virginia Gilardi Hartle, and her first husband, Gunther Herbert Seutter. She is survived by her husband and treasured companion, Thomas Seidell, sister Suzanne Burgess, sister-in-law Lee Lee Felton, stepson Tim Seidell and his wife, Sheila, nieces Sarah Felton and Andrea Elser, and a myriad of friends across all spectrums of the community.

Friends and family will celebrate Rose’s life on Saturday, June 6, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 5875 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. With the Memorial Service at 11:00 am. A reception will follow the service in the church's Fellowship Hall. In keeping with Rose’s zest and joie de vivre, she requested participants forego the traditional funeral black and wear bright colors and patterns of their choosing.

Mollie Clause Ballay

Mollie Clause Ballay entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the age of 92. Loving and devoted wife of the late Robert Paul Ballay, Sr. for 44 years. Beloved daughter of the late Gus J. Clause and Mathilde Berthelotte Clause. Loving mother of Joan B. Sharp (Dennis), Jane B. Legendre (Charles) and the late Robert P. Ballay, Jr. Grandmother of Renee Sharp Yesso (Justin), Rachel Sharp Wilson (David), Matthew Sharp, Oneal Legendre (Tiffany), Michael Legendre (Kelsey), Ryan Ballay (Ashlin), Rachelle Ballay (Christian) and Joshua Ballay. Great Grandmother of Gabriel, Paige, Shaleigh, Ellis, Owen, Arthur, Hattie, Isabel, Kylan and Amari. Sister of the late Royal Clause, Odell C. Bergeron and Bonnie R. LeCompte. Mollie is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mollie loved many things: painting, cooking, gardening, crafting, traveling, LSU sports, and spending time with her grandchildren at Orange Beach, Alabama. Her Sunday dinners brought the family together weekly for decades. As a faithful Catholic, Mollie had a devoted prayer life, with prayer cards and rosaries always nearby. She was a retreat captain for The Cenacle retreat house for over 35 years.

Mollie lived her entire life in her beloved Algiers and was a proud Algierine. She was a lifelong parishioner of Holy Name of Mary Church and 1950 graduate of Martin Behrman High School. Her stories and ability to connect with people everywhere she went were her strengths.

This ability to connect with others carried over into her career. Mollie worked hard. From working in a bakery as a child, in a drug store as a young teen, to becoming the Housing Director for The Naval Support Activity, she could always do the job well because she could easily relate to Commanders as well as plumbers. She will be sorely missed by many.

Mollie was a longtime participant in the People Program, a member of the Westbank Art Guild, the Sultanas, the Behrman High School Reunion Committee, and the Federal Housing Managers Association.

The family would like to thank Our Lady of Wisdom Care Center and Notre Dame Hospice for their care in Mollie’s last months. Thank you also to Sherry Williams for her years of care in home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Algiers, La.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, 400 Verret Street, Algiers, Louisiana on Thursday, June 4, 2026, beginning at 9AM until 11AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church on Thursday at 11AM. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Algiers, Louisiana. Rosemary Mabutas DeLeon

Physician, wife, mother, gardener, keeper of family — she lived every role with her whole heart.

Rosemary Mabutas DeLeon, 81, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication that touched those fortunate enough to know her. Born in Aparri, Cagayan, Philippines, during World War II, Rosemary was the first of eleven children born to Angelina Cid Mabutas and Dr. Juan Lloren Mabutas Jr. As the eldest of her six brothers and four sisters, she embraced responsibility from an early age — learning to cook out of necessity, a skill that would blossom over the decades into one of her greatest and most cherished passions.

Rosemary’s brilliance was evident from the start, and her photographic memory was legendary among her classmates. She enrolled at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) School of Medicine in the Philippines, where, during her first year, she met Serafin “Chico” DeLeon Jr. In many ways, they seemed an unlikely pair. Rose was the quiet, intensely focused scholar, while Chico was gregarious, a charmer, and the medical school class president. Yet their differences proved to be their strength, each completing the other in ways that would only deepen with time. She graduated from UST second in their class in 1968. Chico would go on to train in general surgery, thoracic surgery, and pediatric cardiovascular surgery, and together they would build a remarkable life spanning continents, careers, and generations.

Rose and Chico were married on May 3rd, 1969, and Rose completed her internal medicine residency at Carney Hospital in Boston, followed by a fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at the Hines VA in Chicago. She earned triple board certification in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care.

Behind the credentials was a woman of uncommon character. Those who knew Rose spoke of her poise and grace — a quiet dignity that never wavered. She met every challenge with bravery and a deep, abiding faith that sustained her through difficult times. Hers was a deep well, and those fortunate enough to draw from it — patients, colleagues, children, and grandchildren alike — were better for it.

Rose built a busy private practice in the western suburbs of Chicago while giving birth and raising five beautiful children. Despite a demanding schedule, she managed to attend school events, recitals, and the occasional game. This often required her children to spend considerable time accompanying her to hospitals, where they quickly acclimated to the environment. They relished dining on fine cheeses and ice cream sandwiches in a myriad of doctors’ lounges, where they became recognized as regulars.

Rose and Chico’s five children — MaryAnn, Serafin, Alexander, Joanne, and Jason — all followed them into the field of medicine, pursuing careers in pediatrics, orthopedic surgery, anesthesiology, and family medicine. It was one of her greatest sources of pride.

In 1999, Rose and Chico relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana. She found deep joy in her garden, tending to the kumquat and lemon trees, and in simple pleasures such as listening to her son Alex play the piano and her daughter Joanne sing. Her home became a gallery of her favorite crafts: hand-painted decorations, a treasure trove of items repurposed in creative and surprising ways, and photo collages of her beloved children and grandchildren that adorned every corner of the house.

For 57 years — through medical school, residencies, cross-country moves, five children, and the quiet evenings of their later years — Rose and Chico remained each other’s constant. Hand-in-hand, talking and laughing late into the night, right up until the very final moments, they never stopped choosing each other.

Henry Shows, Jr.

Henry Giles Shows Jr. of Algiers, Louisiana passed away peacefully after a long, courageous battle with heart conditions and paralysis. Surrounded by his loved ones in prayer and song, he slipped away peacefully at his home. After attending Behrman High School, Capt. Henry went on to work on pushboats on the river before becoming a River Boat Pilot in 1974.

Capt. Henry spent his life working with his hands and always looking to solve problems. A tinkerer by nature, if there was anything that needed a working touch, he would be there to handle it. This included his natural affinity and love for the water. He started from humble beginnings fishing at the local pond with the love of his life, Pamela, to later jumpstarting his career as a deckhand on pushboats. He worked his way up to captain, eventually being elected as a Riverboat Pilot. As a pilot, he spent his days guiding large cargo ships safely through the mighty Mississippi River. Commissioned into the New Orleans Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots (NOBRA) on July 1, 1974, he went on to serve 45 wonderful years before retiring on December 31, 2018. Even beyond his exemplary work as a pilot on the river, he also served as the President of NOBRA’s Board of Examiners from 2002 to 2009. Capt. Henry worked hard and was always known for the life he breathed into every day on the river. Known by many for his nickname “Grumpy” due to his raspy and deep voice, his true personality was quite the opposite. He would always carry a smile on his face and joke around, trying to brighten the day of whoever was around him on the water. This happiness extended beyond even his work life, where perhaps he was most known and adored. He loved life and enjoyed spreading that feeling to anyone around him. A natural born comedian, he could light up any room with laughter and joy. He shined brightly and always wanted high spirits for everyone. Even during his final battle with illness, he remained positive and continued bringing smiles to the people he loved most.

Capt. Henry is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Pamela, as well as his daughters Tonya (Gustavo) Caceres, Tammy Rooney, and Tiffany (Noel) Spicuzza; and his 6 grandchildren Justin (Rachel) Brady, Landon (Sarah) Caceres, Maicey Rooney, Noel Spicuzza IV, Bethany Rooney, and Brendan Spicuzza. Son of the late Marguerite Pitre Autin (late Larry) and the late Henry G. Shows, Sr. Brother of the late Ronnie Wilkerson. Brother-in-law of Willie Bradford Brown, Jr. (Karen) and Godfather of Willie Bradford Brown III (Nicole) and uncle of Jason Brown (Paige) and Briscoe Brown (Ann), and many other nieces and nephews.

Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Algiers, LA on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 11 AM. Visitation will be held at church from 9 AM until mass time. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Mothe Funeral Homes entrusted with funeral arrangements. The family asks that you keep Capt. Henry’s memory alive by celebrating life the same way he always did—with laughter, love, and good company.

Ross Baudot

Ross Baudot, a remarkable soul whose life touched the hearts of all who knew him, passed away on May 14, 2026. Born on April 15, 1994, Ross lived a life filled with passion, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to those he loved.

A Master of Towing Vessels and a proud servant of both the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine, Ross embraced the call of the water with a deep and abiding love. His career was more than a profession—it was a reflection of his adventurous spirit and expertise on the seas. Beyond his distinguished service, Ross was known as a beautiful, sweet, and kind-hearted man who would do anything for anyone, especially his cherished family.

Ross’s interests mirrored the vibrant character of his soul. He was a true enthusiast of boats, water, hunting, fishing, and skiing. Vehicles of all kinds—cars, trucks, and anything with wheels, propellers, or tracks—captivated him, and he was the fixer of all things mechanical that crossed his path. His talents and passions intertwined seamlessly, painting the portrait of a man who thrived in action and adventure.

He leaves behind a loving family who were the center of his world: his daughter, Grace Mary Baudot, and son, Hudson James Baudot; his mother, Gia Moser Blanchard, and stepfather, Charles Blanchard; his father, Robert Baudot, and stepmother, Rhonda Rawle Baudot; his sister, Rachel Brucker; his brothers, Christian Blanchard, Chandler Blanchard, Rylan Baudot, and Rowen Baudot; his brother-in-law, James Brucker; the mother of his children: Grace and Hudson Baudot, Melinda Phillips; and his grandparents, Robert and Nancy Moser.

These beloved family members carry forward Ross’s legacy of love and devotion.

Ross was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marcel and Ruth Fay Baudot, Charles and Judy Blanchard, and Woody and Pat Rawle; and by his beloved dog, Remi, “the buddy boy.” Though they have passed on, their spirits live on in the memories they shared with him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Ross on May 27, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Grand Oaks Mansion Mardi Gras World, located at 1380 Port of New Orleans Place in New Orleans, Louisiana. It will be a time for family, friends, and all who knew him to gather and celebrate the extraordinary life of a man whose kindness, skill, and love enriched so many lives.

Ross Baudot’s life was a testament to the power of a tender heart wrapped in strength and an unyielding spirit. Though the waters he now sails are beyond our sight, his memory will forever glide on the currents of our love and respect, carrying with it the warmth and light of a beautiful soul lost too soon.
