How to Keep Your Eyes Healthy

Our eyes are our windows to the world, and taking care of them is vital to maintaining good vision and overall health. Here at Harnos Optometry, we’re passionate about ensuring your eyes stay healthy. Here are some tips to help you keep your vision sharp and how our practice can support you.

1. Regular Eye Exams
One of the most crucial steps in maintaining eye health is scheduling regular eye exams. Many eye conditions, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, often have no early symptoms and can only be detected through a comprehensive eye exam. At Harnos Optometry, we offer thorough eye exams for all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics, to catch any issues early and keep your vision at its best.

2. Protect Your Eyes from UV Rays
Just like your skin, your eyes need protection from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Prolonged exposure can increase the risk of cataracts and other eye conditions. Wearing sunglasses that block 100% of UV rays is essential. At Harnos Optometry, we offer a variety of stylish and functional sunglasses to keep your eyes safe and looking great.

3. Follow the 20-20-20 Rule
If you spend a lot of time staring at screens, you might experience digital eye strain. To combat this, follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away. This simple habit can help reduce eye strain and keep your eyes comfortable throughout the day. We can provide personalized advice on how to manage screen time effectively.

4. Maintain a Healthy Diet
Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids can benefit your eye health. Foods like leafy greens, fish, and nuts are particularly good for your eyes. Our team at Harnos Optometry can guide you on nutrition tips to support your vision health.

5. Wear Protective Eyewear
If you’re involved in activities that pose a risk to your eyes, such as sports or certain occupations, wearing protective eyewear is a must. At Harnos Optometry, we can recommend and provide the appropriate protective gear to keep your eyes safe.

At Harnos Optometry, we’re dedicated to providing comprehensive eye care services to our community. Whether you need a routine eye exam, prescription glasses, contact lenses, or treatment for an eye condition, our experienced team is here to help. We accept most vision plans and health insurances, and if your employer doesn’t offer eyecare benefits, we provide special discounts for local small business employees.

Visit us at Harnos Optometry and experience the difference of personalized, professional eye care. Together, we can ensure that your eyes stay healthy and your vision remains clear for years to come.

Why Online Progressive Lenses Are Outdated and Not Good for Your Vision

If you need glasses to see both near and far, you may have heard of progressive lenses. Progressive lenses are a type of multifocal lens that provide a smooth transition from distance to intermediate to near vision, without any visible lines or segments. They are designed to mimic the natural function of the eye and provide a more comfortable and natural vision.

However, not all progressive lenses are created equal. Some progressive lenses are outdated and can cause more problems than they solve. This is especially true for online progressive lenses.

Online progressive lenses are those that you order from an online retailer, such as Warby Parker, Zenni Optical, or others. While these online retailers may offer low prices, trendy styles and fast delivery, they may not offer the best quality, fit and service for your progressive lenses.

Here are some reasons why online progressive lenses are outdated and not good for your vision:

Online progressive lenses are not customized to your individual needs and preferences. They use a predictive "one size fits all" measurement for progressives ordered online, instead of taking the actual measurement in the store. This can result in poor fit, alignment and comfort. You may also experience distortion, blurriness, glare and headaches.

Online progressive lenses are an old entry-level design that have very narrow zones of clear vision. This means that you have to move your head a lot to see clearly at different distances, which can be annoying and tiring. You may also miss important details that could indicate a problem with your eyes or health.

Online progressive lenses are not comparable to the premium lenses offered by other brands, such as Nikon, Zeiss, Hoya, etc. These brands use advanced digital technology and materials to create progressive lenses that are more precise, adaptable and personalized. They also offer features such as blue light protection, anti-reflective coating, UV protection and scratch resistance.

Online progressive lenses may not match your prescription accurately. This can compromise your vision quality and safety.

So what can you do about it? If you are unhappy with your online progressive lenses, you have some options:

You can switch to another brand of progressive lenses that suits you better. There are many brands and types of progressive lenses available on the market today, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. You can consult with your eye doctor or optician to find out which one is best for you.

At Harnos Optometry, we offer a wide range of premium digital progressive lenses from reputable brands that use the latest technology and innovation. We also provide personalized service and expert advice to help you choose the right progressive lenses for your vision needs and lifestyle. We are committed to helping you see better and live better.

Don't settle for outdated online progressive lenses that compromise your vision quality and comfort. Schedule an appointment with us today and discover the difference that modern progressive lenses can make for your vision.
