Today is National Cancer Survivors Day, a time to recognize our patients patients who have and are fighting cancer. Patients like Ron Buck, a Tierra Verde resident, who was diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer last year. After undergoing extensive surgery and withstanding a 12-cycle aggressive chemotherapy regiment to battle the disease at BayCare's St. Anthony's Hospital, Ron is now a cancer survivor.

Ron is among the more than 18 million people in the United States who are cancer survivors. Today, (your hospital) honors each of our patients who are in the fight and are winning.

To celebrate the end of treatment, many patients ring a bell to represent the restoration of harmony and balance in life. Ron sure did on New Year’s Eve 2025. "I rang that bell really hard," he said.

At BayCare, our team members are there to applaud the patients as they ring out of their treatment. Our oncology teams are working with the latest advancements in cancer care. And by late summer, we'll continue those efforts with the opening of our new proton therapy center.

Great news for Pasco County! Thanks to the success of the BayCare Behavioral Health Urgent Care in New Port Richey, BayCare has opened a second location in Dade City to serve eastern Pasco County-area residents. The centers, which are the first of their kind in Florida, provide adults in urgent need of mental health and substance use care a safe and welcoming space to get the care they need when they need it. Congratulations to Psychiatrist Crystal Wilson, MD, for being named Morton Plant North Bay Hospital’s Physician of the Quarter.

Since joining Morton Plant North Bay Hospital’s North Bay Recovery Center in July 2018, Dr. Wilson has earned a reputation for exceptional clinical expertise and compassionate care.

After earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of South Florida, Dr. Wilson received her medical degree from the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. She then completed her post-graduate residency and fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Dr. Wilson is board certified in both general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

The Physician of the Quarter award is based on comments from peers, team members and patients. One nominator wrote, “Dr. Wilson goes above and beyond for her patients and their families daily. She also goes out of her way to make her staff feel supported and cared for. She always listens and even buys lunch for them.”

Another wrote, “Dr. Wilson is an outstanding psychiatrist. Her dedication to patient-centered care, ensuring patients feel heard and maintaining professionalism and calm during challenging situations are qualities that need to be recognized!

Team members describe Dr. Wilson as “supportive, intentional, poised, knowledgeable and caring.”
