Today is World Mental Health Day.

At Effective School Solutions, we believe every student deserves to be heard and supported, right where they learn. Today, we’re thinking of the students, families, and school teams who make that possible.

This year’s theme, “Real Voices, Real Change,” is a reminder that kids and teens are the experts on their own feelings. Sometimes the most helpful thing we can do as parents, caregivers, and educators is simply listen.

Try this weekend: ask an open question (“What was the best and hardest part of your week?”), and let the answer be whatever it is.

If you or your child needs support right now, call or text 988, any time, day or night.

Happy ! 🎉

Principals build a school's culture and climate so students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn—and they make mental health a priority for students and staff alike.

To every principal who partners with Effective School Solutions: thank you for leading with heart and for letting us stand alongside you.

Schools aren't asked to be therapists. They're asked to be something just as powerful: a building full of adults who notice.

Our clinical team wrote about what that looks like in practice — the signs worth paying attention to, the question worth asking, and how districts build a safety net that holds all year, not just in September.

We were so excited to host leaders from around the Northern Illinois area yesterday for a wonderful discussion around supporting mental health in Illinois schools.

Thank you to ED-RED for partnering with us for this event and for our panelists for their wisdom and insight!

A crisis team is essential—but it isn’t the same as a schoolwide su***de prevention framework.

A practical framework ensures every adult in the building knows:

• What warning signs to notice

• What to do when they’re concerned

• Who to contact immediately

• How the school will respond after a crisis

The goal isn’t to turn educators, coaches, bus drivers, or office staff into clinicians. It’s to give them the clarity and confidence to recognize changes in a student and act.

In our latest article, we explore how schools can build clear referral pathways, prepare for postvention, and practice their plans before a crisis occurs.

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.

The theme for World Su***de Prevention Day this year is "Changing the Narrative on Su***de" — hope is built through connection, and connection is something every one of us can offer.

To the educators, counselors, clinicians, and school staff who ask the brave, caring questions every day: what you do matters more than you may ever know.

If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 — the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline is free, confidential, and available 24/7.
