The fourth trimester is finally making headlines, and families are being reminded of what we’ve always known: no one should have to navigate those first weeks and months alone. 💜
A Rutgers-led study of 414,000+ New Jersey births found that postpartum depressive symptoms were associated with nearly 3× the risk of infant mortality before age one. This is an association, not proof of causation, but it highlights an urgent truth: screening must be paired with real support, referrals, and access to care.
And in Massachusetts, a $2 million proposal would expand free nurse home visits to every newborn family through Welcome Family: bringing health checks, questions, screenings, and referrals closer to home. ✨
This is what a village looks like:
💜 Mental health support
💜 Lactation guidance
💜 Pelvic floor physical therapy
💜 Doulas and midwives
💜 Nonprofits and community resources
💜 Trusted care across 30+ modalities
The fourth trimester is not a gap between birth and “getting back to normal.” It is a vital part of the parenting journey, and support should meet families where they are.
Our village is already here. My Bump Hub is always free for families, connecting you to trusted support from fertility through early childhood.
