Normal doesn’t always mean optimal. Dr. Candice Knight on why reference ranges are built to detect disease, not early dysfunction, and where you actually want your numbers to land.

Chronic stress can lower testosterone, raise LDL and blood sugar, and keep inflammation high. Passive scrolling and binge-watching are linked to more of it, not less. Yesterday was World Mental Health Day, a reminder that rest takes more than a screen. Link in bio

Heart disease starts decades before symptoms show. Dr. Abid Husain on why screening should start in your 30s, or in your 20s with a family history.

Menopause care isn't one prescription. Estradiol for hot flashes, night sweats, and bone. Progesterone to pair with it. Testosterone for the things estrogen doesn't fix — libido, energy, mood. All physician-prescribed, dosed to your labs, adjusted over time.

The FDA recently revised its guidance on testosterone therapy — removing the long-standing warning that tied it to heart attack risk, while adding a note to monitor blood pressure, since some men see it rise on TRT. The shift means doctors can prescribe more intentionally for men with a true deficiency. The caveat stays the same: it's for treating a real deficiency, not anti-aging. Dr. Knight on what the update actually changed.

Training for a fall race? Five markers runners should know before race day:

Vitamin D — bone and muscle. 90% of endurance athletes are low, and low D means higher stress-fracture risk.
Iron and ferritin — oxygen transport. 15–35% of female athletes and 3–11% of male athletes are deficient. Low iron looks like "I'm just tired."
Magnesium and potassium — cramping and recovery. 57% of runners don't hit daily requirements.
CRP — inflammation. Chronically elevated means slower recovery and more injuries.
Testosterone — muscle and red blood cells. Male athletes with low T have 4.5× the rate of bone injury.

Get a baseline. If anything's low, retest at the start of each training block. Full breakdown linked in bio.

Conventional medicine is the collision center — built to diagnose an acute problem and fix it. Preventative medicine works differently: it keeps your cells functioning to stop the catastrophe before it happens. There's room for both, but knowing which one you're in changes the conversation — and the outcome. Dr. Knight on why so many people leave the doctor disappointed.
