Each month, we explore a different posture in Vinyasa class. Join us this month as we explore the grounding, release, and inward focus of Rabbit Pose (Sasangasana).

Rabbit Pose invites us to slow down and turn inward. This posture creates space along the entire spine while encouraging a deep rounding through the back body. Often practiced after backbends, it helps balance the spine and gives students the opportunity to explore flexion, grounding through the shins, and steady breath.

While it may look simple, Rabbit Pose is an active posture that teaches how to support the body through engagement and alignment while allowing the nervous system to soften.

Key Alignment Points:

🌟 Shins and the tops of the feet stay grounded, creating a steady base through the lower legs.

🌟 Inner thighs gently engage to keep the knees tracking straight and support the lift of the hips.

🌟 Hands hold the heels with the arms active, helping to draw the shoulders forward and lift the hips higher.

🌟 Chin gently tucks toward the chest as the crown of the head moves toward the mat, creating length through the back of the neck.

🌟 The spine rounds evenly from tailbone through the upper back, creating a dome-like shape.

🌟 Breath stays steady as the core lightly engages to support the lift and prevent collapsing into the neck.

Crow Pose feels scary for a lot of people.
The biggest fear? Falling on your face.

Try this simple trick:
Use a block under your head as support. Once your feet lift, gently take the head off the block and find your balance.

Benefits of the Block Head-Support Crow

🌟Reduces fear of falling 😅
The block acts like a “training wheel.” When we know our head has support, we’re more willing to lean forward which is the key to crow.

🌟Teaches proper weight shift
Many beginners keep their hips too far back. Resting the head lightly helps understand how far forward they need to shift the center of gravity.

🌟Builds wrist and core strength gradually
Focus on engaging the core and lifting the feet without dumping all the weight into the wrists immediately.

🌟 Improves body awareness
Lifting the head off the block once the feet lift teaches control and balance rather than just jumping into the pose.

🌟Boosts confidence
Once you successfully lifts your feet even for a second it rewires the brain: “Oh, I can actually do this.”

Common mistakes in Crow Pose 🐦‍⬛

Crow isn’t just about lifting your feet it’s about balance, alignment, and trust.

The most common errors we see:
• Looking down instead of forward
• Not leaning forward enough
• Knees slipping off the arms
• Forgetting to engage the core
• Hips staying too low
• Letting fear stop the shift forward

Small adjustments make a big difference. Practice, patience, and a little courage go a long way.

Keep showing up. Your crow will come. ✨
