There comes a time when many seniors or their loved ones realize they could use a bit of assistance, whether aging in place with home care or taking steps to move to a nursing home.

When comparing nursing home care and in-home care the obvious difference is the ‘home’ element, but there are other things to consider. Below we listed a few differences, in-home care vs. nursing home care! Besides aging in a familiar environment, private home care allows for care to be customized to your loved one's needs.

This week's Tuesday Tip provides info to those who have loved ones with dementia or Alzheimer's disease – Be Patient!

It might take your loved one longer to complete certain tasks like bathing and eating. Try your best to be patient and not get frustrated. The inability to care for themselves can be upsetting or embarrassing, maintain their dignity by respecting their comfort level. For example, allow them to bathe or shower alone - if it’s safe!

If you or a loved is in need of memory related care, our expert caregivers have the knowledge to deal with issues ranging from dementia and Alzheimer’s to hospice care, rehab, and more. Call us today to learn more.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are bringing you this Tuesday Tip – Get a Medical Checkup!

Early detection and treatment is still the best strategy for a better cancer outcome. The American Cancer Society recommends women ages 40 to 44 should have a choice to start yearly screening mammograms if they would like. Women ages 45 to 54 should have a mammogram each year, and those 55 years and over should continue getting mammograms every 1 to 2 years.

Have a medical checkup and mammogram on a regular basis, and speaking with your doctor can give you a better sense of what's right for you.

Flu season is here and for older adults it can pose a serious threat for a few reasons. As we age our immune system weakens, and if our body is too busy fighting the flu, we can pick up a secondary infection such as pneumonia. Also, older adults are more likely to have other health conditions, like diabetes, that increase their risk for complications from the flu.

With the vaccine, it can reduce your risk of getting the flu or getting seriously ill if you do get sick. The flu vaccination is especially helpful for people with chronic health conditions. In addition to getting your flu vaccine, you can help stop the spread of flu with the following actions:

• Washing your hands
• Covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze
• Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, or mouth
• Staying home when you are sick
• Avoiding close contact with people who are sick

Stay protected and enjoy what the autumn season has to offer without worrying about getting sick!
