Confession from your friendly neighborhood OB-GYN:

About 50% of my job is gynecology.

The other 50% is being a therapist.

This week alone I’ve talked women through relationships that were draining them, jobs that were diminishing them, stress that was exhausting them, and situations that were quite literally affecting their health.

We joke and call it being a “gyne-psychology,” but there’s truth in it.

Because what happens in a woman’s mind affects her body.

And what happens in her body affects her mind.

The anxiety.
The overwhelm.
The burnout.
The people-pleasing.
The carrying everyone else’s baggage while pretending yours isn’t heavy.

It shows up somewhere.

In your sleep.
In your s*x drive.
In your hormones.
In your appetite.
In your energy.
In your periods.
In your blood pressure.

Ladies, do a quick check-in with yourself today.

Are the people around you helping you grow?

Or are they slowly convincing you that you’re less than you are?

Because if someone is constantly trying to shrink you, crack you, break you down, dim your light, or make you question your worth, it may be time for a reevaluation.

You are not “too much.”

You are not difficult.

You are not asking for too much.

You are all that and then some.

Protect your peace the same way you’d protect your health.

Because, truthfully?

They’re the same thing

Hugs,
KP

Perimenopause doesn’t show up on your 45th birthday holding balloons and an invitation.

Yes, it can begin in your late 30s. It can begin in your early 40s. Sometimes symptoms show up years before anyone recognizes what’s happening.

And yet every day I hear:

❌ “You’re too young.”
❌ “Your labs are normal.”
❌ “It’s probably stress.”
❌ “Maybe you’re just busy.”
❌ "My doctor said perimenopause isn't real"
Meanwhile women are experiencing:

🔥 Hot flashes
😴 Sleep disruption
🧠 Brain fog
😩 Anxiety
📈 Weight changes
💔 Low libido
🎢 Mood swings

And they’re being told it’s all in their head.

Ladies, if your body feels different, pay attention.

Perimenopause isn’t a single event. It’s a transition. Hormones fluctuate long before periods stop, which is why a single blood test often doesn’t tell the whole story.

Sorry if you have been gaslit!

Because if half the population is going to go through this, maybe we should know what it looks like.

Just a thought.

Using my “Mom, You’re So Cringe” card to big up my fabulous middle daughter.

If you’ve ever been in my office and heard me talk about my kids, you already know this is my feisty little Gemini. Equal parts chaos, brilliance, and strong opinions. Keeps life SPICY every single day. 🌶️

Meanwhile… this same child is over here casually speaking flawless Mandarin, giving a TED Talk about hamburgers, additives, and the nutritional downfall of American food while I sit there blinking like:

Ma’am…what did you just say?

And somehow she delivered this entire monologue while rocking her “The Future Is Black & Female” sweatshirt like the tiny global leader she is.

I honestly don’t even fully understand what she was saying… something about them making a superior hamburger without additives? WHO KNOWS.
But the confidence?
The diction?
The range?
Incredible. ❤️

She thinks I’m embarrassing her every time I pull out my camera or brag about her… but truthfully I’m just in complete awe. Watching your children become fully themselves is such a wild privilege.

One minute you’re cutting grapes into tiny pieces… the next minute they’re correcting your pronunciation in Mandarin and preparing for world domination.

My girl is going to the moon. 🚀

To every patient who trusted me with one of the biggest decisions of their life… thank you. 🖤

Writing The Empowered Hysterectomy was never just about writing a book. It was about making sure women felt seen, informed, less afraid, and less alone in a healthcare system that too often leaves us confused, dismissed, or terrified.

The messages, photos, highlighted pages, tears, DMs, and stories y’all have shared with me? Whew. They have meant more than you know.

Every late night after clinic.
Every early morning before my kids woke up.
Every chapter rewritten 15 times because I wanted women to truly understand their bodies and their options…

None of it was in vain.

Knowing this book is helping women around the world conquer fear, ask better questions, advocate for themselves, make empowered decisions, and finally LIVE without pain or suffering? That is the dream.

I am endlessly grateful to every patient who allowed me to walk beside them on their hysterectomy journey. Thank you for trusting me with your stories, your vulnerability, your fear, your healing, and your hope.

And to the women still deciding, still researching, still scared: you deserve information, compassion, and choices. Always.

Now excuse me while I cry in OB/GYN. 🥹✨📚

Sooooooooo...we really think HIV packed its bags in the 90s and said “my work here is done.”
Respectfully… it did not.

Let’s talk facts:

👉 STIs like to kick it together.. If you have one, HIV is more likely to be invited.
👉 About 1 in 4 people diagnosed with HIV had an STI in the previous 6 months
👉 Translation: your STI diagnosis is not just a treatment moment—it’s a prevention opportunity

And yet… we’re still acting surprised.

Meanwhile:
🚨 ~100 people are diagnosed with HIV every single day in the U.S.
🚨 1 in 5 new diagnoses are women (yes, WOMEN)
🚨 Ages 13–34 make up over half of new diagnoses
🚨 Black and Latino communities? Still carrying a disproportionate burden

But the wildest part?
People STILL say:
“I’m not at risk.”

Ma’am.
Sir.
Beloved.
HIV does not care about your relationship status or your s*xuality.

👉 Think you’re monogamous? Cool.
My patients know what I say...Trust but verify!!
👉 Think it’s “not your community”? It is.
👉 Think testing is optional? It’s not.

Here’s the real flex:
✔️ Get tested regularly
✔️ If you’re diagnosed with an STI → this is your moment to ask about PrEP
✔️ Talk to your doctor like your health depends on it… because it does

And let’s be very clear:
PrEP works.
It dramatically reduces your risk of getting HIV when taken correctly.

We are not going backwards on this.

This is not fear-mongering.
This is prevention, access, and calling out the silence that keeps people at risk.

Normalize the convo.
Normalize the testing.
Normalize protecting yourself.

Because “I didn’t think it could happen to me” is not a prevention plan.
Kisses, Dr. K
