I used to advocate for natural hospital births. I had one. I thought that was my calling. To help women rise above the system and change it from the inside out. I thought, surely everyone can do this, they just need to be equipped and prepared to speak up and fight for what they want!
And then I experienced giving birth without fighting. Without exercising authority and instead melting into safety and freedom. Leaving my logical brain, on high alert, and filled with anxiety, and instead being filled with complete peace and comfort and flowing into the waves of labor land with no need to jolt myself out of it to make sure I was still being respected and given consent.
I will no longer lie to mothers, because telling a mother she must fight for her birth, is a lie. Because she should never have to.
If you want to change the system, you cannot change it “from the inside out.”
You must leave it entirely. 🤍
