🎥Thank you for hosting tonight’s powerful panel and film screening of “More Than Blue.” It was inspiring to hear the stories of PMAD survivors and learn more about the many maternal mental health support options available for birthing people right here in NYC. And of course always fun to see my fave perinatal colleagues/book collaborators IRL! .therapy

More Than Blue is now streaming on many platforms, and can be found here - https://womensmentalhealth.org/more-than-blue-documentary-2/.

📚Super excited to be illustrating an upcoming book that includes real talk on pregnancy, postpartum, parenting and everything in between through the invaluable lens of a seasoned therapist mom, .therapy!

📚Our creative collaboration was born out of a shared passion for supporting expecting, new, and burnt-out parents as we both know first-hand how wild the ride can get, and have dedicated our careers to providing grounding and empowerment along the way.

📚Stay tuned for the book release, expected this fall, 2026!

💫Disney’s new short film, “Versa,” is an incredible example of the use of art as therapy right from its inception. It opens with the Director, Malcon Pierce, vulnerably sharing his family’s personal experience with perinatal loss as inspiration for the film. Instead of burying himself in work and continuing to try to outrun his pain, he shares how he finally lets it in and finds healing through animating his story. Traumatic experiences surpass words, as do creative masterpieces.

💫Viewers are invited to witness the couple’s intimate journey of rupture and repair through lyrical dance, cosmic imagery, and evocative music. After their life-shattering event, the characters have to piece themselves and their relationship back together like the delicate and powerful Japanese art of “Kintsugi,” where ceramic cracks are filled with gold leaf and valued for their unique imperfections.

💫Although critics have flagged the heteronormative lens and quintessentially Disney storyboard sequence, as a perinatal art therapist I was moved by the embrace of “sensitive” subject matter–”viewer discretion” and all. “Versa” touches on so many universal elements of what makes us human–in how we love, lose, and start over along the way.

🌱Inspired by today’s much-awaited Spring weather, I decided to revisit a “Tree of Life” exercise that can be helpful for building self-esteem, tapping into gratitude, and maintaining a positive perspective. Here’s how it works.

🌱Start at the roots, asking yourself: Where do I come from? What are my roots? Then, move to the ground around the tree and consider: What keeps me grounded in my day-to-day routines? Next, move to the trunk: What values make up my foundation or core? Follow the truck up to outstretched branches above and ask: What am I reaching for in the future? Fill in leaves with people who make up your support system and add fruit as you consider: What gifts have I been given? Sketch some flowers or seeds around the base of the tree as you reflect: What do I want to leave to others as my legacy to make the world a little better? Last, sketch a compost pile near your tree as you consider: What do I want to leave behind that is no longer serving me?

🌱I invite you to try it for yourself and see what comes up! Grab your favorite drawing materials and enjoy the process.

💡So excited for next week’s day-long conference here in NYC where I have the honor of co-facilitating a brief experiential, modeled after our workforce wellness workshops provided on an ongoing monthly basis to hardworking healthcare staff within the public hospital system via the NYC Health + Hospitals HHArt of Medicine program. I’ll be presenting a sneak peak of our Art-Centered Practice of Care approach alongside my incredible Whitney Museum of Art colleagues. Hope to see you there!
