This is the word coined for this transition to becoming a mother.
Coined by the anthropologist Dana Raphael in the mid-1970s, matrescence is the process of becoming a mother. She also coined the word “doula,” a woman who helps with this transition into motherhood.

Did you know that breastfed babies typically only need 3–5 oz per feed from 6 weeks to 12 months because breast milk composition changes to become more calorie-dense, rather than just increasing in volume, ensuring nutritional needs are met without needing a larger volume of milk.
(and yes, some babies drink more😉).

So it makes sense not to feed an older baby stashed frozen milk from when they were a newborn; the caloric content is different.

I would make sure to rotate the frozen milk so it’s used within a month or so of when you pump.

Don’t worry, so if you’re “only pumping 5oz,” that’s enough!

DID YOU KNOW you can get postpartum preeclampsia after you give birth?
It can happen to any person after they give birth.
If you had pre-eclampsia while pregnant, giving birth is not a cure.

Signs and symptoms of preeclampsia include:
Changes in vision, such as blurriness, flashing lights, seeing spots, or sensitivity to light.
Headache that doesn’t go away, Nausea, throwing up, shortness of breath, and dizziness.
Pain in the belly.
Swelling in the legs, hands, or face, high blood pressure.

Many of these signs and symptoms are common discomforts. If you have even one sign or symptom, call your healthcare provider right away.📞

HOW TO TREAT EARLY INFLAMMATION?
(Lumps, Blocked Ducts, Mastitis)
The principles of management are to resolve the
INFLAMMATION in the breast tissue.
- Feed or pump only enough only to feed baby, not empty (YOU CANNOT EMPTY A BREAST)
Cold/ice packs to reduce swelling/pain.
Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation
- Lymphatic drainage (light strokes toward your armpit)

WHAT TO AVOID IN MASTITIS MANAGEMENT?
The previous methods of management WORSEN mastitis and INCREASE the risk of developing an abscess.
AVOID these actions:
* Deep massage INJURES tissue & INCREASES swelling.
* Pumping to empty tells your body to make MORE milk, increasing pressure.
* Heat WORSENS swelling and INCREASES inflammation.
These cause early inflammation to develop into severe mastitis.

Please call for help if not resolving and if you continue to have a fever and have flu like symptoms.
