I am heartbroken that our dear friend Jenneh has passed away.
I met Jenneh nearly a decade ago when she reached out asking if she could volunteer at an Endo What? screening in Los Angeles. Like anyone who met her, I immediately knew she was the real deal - kind, generous, warm, and whip-smart.
Over the years we became close friends - the kind of friends that can text one word and you laugh out loud. She allowed me and my camera into some of the most vulnerable moments of her journey so others could see the reality of living with chronic illness, how it touches every part of your life. We cried together while filming. We laughed together while filming. And through it all, she fought so hard.
Jenneh never stopped fighting for better care, for answers, for herself and for all of us. And even in the hardest moments, she carried a deep hope that things would get better. She never lost her faith, even when confronted with challenges that would bring most people to their knees. And somehow, she never lost her laugh either, or her perfectly timed funny quip and wry commentary that could cut through even the darkest moments.
She carried extraordinary grace, strength, and faith. Her advocacy and the community she helped build will continue to impact generations to come.
I’m sending so much love to her wonderful husband Joe, her brother Richard, her mother Agnes, and everyone who loved her.
Jenneh fought so others wouldn’t have to fight alone, and that legacy will continue to change lives. The world is a dimmer place without her, but her light will live on in all of us who knew her and were touched by her.
Rest in peace, dear friend.
