Jonathan Angelilli

Jonathan Angelilli I help new mothers boost energy and tone up so they can reclaim their body and life.

I started working out to “look better naked”, but exercise ended up transforming me. It has empowered me to be stronger physically and mentally, feel better within my body and about my body, and be more confident and pro-active in all areas of life. Essentially, exercise allows me to be my best self and live life more fully. A passion to share this enthusiasm for self-empowerment via fitness naturally arose from my experience. My goal with every client is to change there life through exercise, and to consistently exceed their own expectations about what they can achieve.

Okay, but seriously… where are my gym weirdos at? 🙋‍♂️

Why limit yourself to stiff, predictable movement when your body is designed for so much more?

Mobility. Strength. Spinal sequencing. Timing. Rhythm. Balance. Isometrics. Developmental patterns. Full-body organization.

This is a core workout, even if it does not look like the kind you usually see on the gym floor.

After 25 years of studying strength training, martial arts, dance, Qigong, mobility, corrective exercise, and all kinds of movement rabbit holes, one of my favorite things is combining everything into one giant movement playground.

The goal is not to make the exercise look complicated.

It is to teach the body how to coordinate more parts of itself, respond to more situations, and discover more options… in short, to be more fully alive!

That is why identifying with movement can be so liberating.

When your entire identity becomes “I’m a runner,” “I’m a lifter,” or “I only do Pilates,” an injury can suddenly take away not just your workout, but part of who you believe you are.

Movement gives you a bigger identity and opens up the possibility of exploring your full humanity.

You can crawl, lift, rotate, balance, dance, stabilize, breathe, improvise, and play.

Current movement diet?

Omnivore.

Where are my fellow gym weirdos? Gym squares, shhhhh 🤫

24 years clean today.

At 16 I was angry, lost, & completely trapped inside my own mind.

I grew up in Queens. I was loved deeply by two parents who gave me far more support, safety, and stability than many people ever receive.

Even at my lowest, they never stopped believing in me.

But internally, I hated myself.

That shame eventually turned into addiction. And the deeper I sank into it, the more I identified with the part of me that felt broken, powerless, and beyond saving.

What rescued me was not punishment. It was learning how to reconnect with myself with 3 things.

💪 Strength training
At first, honestly, I started lifting to impress a girl. But over time it gave me something much deeper: self-respect, discipline, and a way to transform pain into strength.

🧘🏽‍♂️ Meditation + Tai Chi
These practices taught me how to stay with myself instead of escaping myself. How to breathe. Feel. Slow down. Listen.

🌳 Nature
Especially the forest. Nature reminded me there was something deeper than the stories in my head. Something alive underneath all the shame and noise that was untouched, pure, eternal.

Those three things didn’t just help me get sober. They helped me rebuild trust in myself.

I feel incredibly grateful that for more than 20 years now, I’ve been able to share those same three tools in my coaching practice to support people trying to find their way back to themselves.

My own path has also given me a tremendous amount of humility in understanding my students. It’s been beautiful exploring this intersection of identity, body image, self-worth, addiction, healing, and self-care with them.

It’s also been deeply validating to watch modern science increasingly confirm what I experienced firsthand: movement, meditation, nervous system regulation, nature, and human connection profoundly shape body, brain & behavior.

The last photo is of the two people who loved me through all of it. My actions caused them enormous pain, and they still never stopped believing in me. That love gave me the foundation I needed to rescue myself.

If someone came to mind while reading this, tag them below and remind them they’re not alone.

At 45 years old, I’m still lying in bed at night thinking about girls… less about chasing, more about understanding them. (Emma turns 12 this Summer! 🤯)

I grew up surrounded by strong women. My mother. My 3 sisters. Later, women founders, artists, professors, mothers, healers, executives, dancers, leaders.

Over the last 25 years of coaching, one thing has become impossible to ignore: Many women are carrying an extraordinary amount beneath the surface while still somehow holding everything together.

Something has gone very wrong in the way many boys and “men” are being taught to relate to women.

What could evolve from passion into awe, admiration, tenderness, protection, devotion, and respect is being distorted into resentment, performance, manipulation, or disconnection.

Women don’t need more fixing; they need support that meets their basic needs. That understanding has profoundly shaped the way I coach.

Part of becoming a better man is learning how to admire women without needing to control, perform for, or consume them. I am still learning these lessons.

But I can tell you that supporting women in real life is not that complicated:

Listen better.
Protect their rest.
Take their pain seriously.
Help carry the weight, esp. emotionally.
Make it safer for them to soften and slow down.

These things are especially true when women go through the 3 hormonal transformations of their life cycle: menarche, motherhood, & menopause.

A world where boys have great examples of this kind of man and aspire to be him, that’s a world I so deeply desire to live in!

Who out there is inspiring the next generation of boys in a wholesome way?

After 25 years of coaching, one lesson keeps repeating itself: helping women feel safe enough to slow down is an ABSOLUTE game-changer.

Especially for high-performing women.
Especially during hormonal transitions.
Especially for those who have spent years pushing, overriding, and holding everything together for everyone else.

I’ve worked with actors, dancers, executives, mothers, single parents, women navigating recovery, women navigating menopause/divorce/tragic loss… women navigating everything at once.

Different lives. Different pressures. Same pattern: Strong on the outside, depleted underneath.

And when they learn how to slow down, regulate, and actually feel what’s happening in their body, something shifts.

Not through more effort. Through relaxation as a gateway to safety and, eventually, deep self-trust.

This is the difference between “doing all the things” yet not getting results and actually feeling at home in your body.

Grateful to the women who trust me with this work and continue to teach me what real strength looks like. You all continue to inspire me!

I had this painting made of my mom. Because obviously… she’s a queen.

This photo is from the moment I surprised her with it.

She raised four kids while running a business and somehow kept our family grounded through it all.

She was originally trained as a physical therapist, but like a lot of women of her generation, pieces of her own career got sacrificed while she held everything else together.

Growing up around that kind of strength shapes you… in ways you don’t fully understand until much later.

It’s probably not a coincidence that for the last 25 years I’ve mostly worked with women.

And especially in the last decade, with high-performing women and mothers.

One thing they’ve all taught me: Women are already incredibly strong already.

They don’t need someone yelling at them to push harder. Most of the time they need the opposite.

Space to breathe.
Permission to soften.
A way back into their body.

The student and the teacher create the teaching together. And the women I’ve worked with over the years have taught me far more than any certification ever could.

So today feels like a good day to say thank you.

To my mom.

And to all the powerful women who have trusted me with their strength over the years.

Happy International Women’s Day.

Four and a half years ago, we packed up our lives and moved to Canada. New country. New systems. New everything, in the middle of a global health crisis, with two small children in tow.

What we didn’t fully understand at the time was just how much courage it would require to build here, from the ground up. (Because honestly, if we had, we wouldn’t have moved.)

I’ve had a front row seat to ’s leadership. The hard conversations. The long nights. The creative risks. The (many) moments where she had to hold steady when everything around her was deeply uncertain.

And now… this. Tonight is the Montreal premiere of La R***e Finale with her company !

She’s led & lifted an entire company, & created space for artists to fly.

One day she’ll write the book about these years. It will be wild. And honest. And powerful.

But tonight, we celebrate. So proud of you Alexandra Damiani. Opening night. Let’s go! 💫

Addiction is a ruthless teacher.

For those we haven’t met yet, I’m Jonathan. I’m a holistic performance coach, and my work is deeply personal.

I’m approaching 24 years clean. In my early twenties, addiction was running my life. What helped me rebuild wasn’t willpower. It was movement, meditation, and time in nature. Strength training became a way to feel my body instead of escaping it. That path of recovery turned into my life’s work: helping other people feel safe, strong, and at home in themselves.

Over time, I found myself working primarily with high-performing women: academics, artists, executives, mothers holding entire ecosystems together.

I was raised by my mother and three sisters, and let’s just say I’m very comfortable in my feminine. This may be part of why high-performing women trust me with parts of themselves they don’t share with anyone else.

The women I work with are incredibly capable. Often so capable that softening and receiving support feels foreign, even unsafe. Years of overriding their body’s signals can erode inner trust, even when outwardly they’re leading at the highest levels.

My approach blends strength training, nervous system regulation, Qigong, healing touch, and deep inquiry. It’s about building both inner and outer strength without burning out in the process.

Moving from “wired and tired” to “energized and relaxed”!

And that changes everything.

There have been great civilizations without the wheel, but there have never been civilizations that didn’t tell stories.

And before we had words, we told them with our bodies.

This week, I had the privilege of teaching at The as part of the ’s 10th Winter Dance Intensive, created by and .

What struck me most wasn’t the talent—it was the joy, passion, and open-hearted commitment in the room.

This is the week when most people hit the snooze button. These dancers showed up early, curious, present, and willing to do the quiet, intimate work of becoming who they’re here to be—and of learning how to _dance their stories_ with honesty and courage.

Watching Alexandra Damiani work with the dancers is truly wild. Her presence is clear, embodied, expressive, and pain-free—but what moved me just as much was her unwavering commitment to creating a safe environment for dancers to take risks. That kind of safety is built over years of somatic education, primal movement, and deep respect for the body’s intelligence. In her presence, dancers aren’t just learning steps—they’re given permission to explore, listen, and trust themselves. From that, the movement—and the story—comes alive.

Each morning, all 50 dancers began their day with me on the floor, practicing Primal Movement. Using the ground, breath, and sensory input, we worked to map the body, warm up efficiently, and move with more clarity and power. Rooted in developmental movement, this work is rarely taught in traditional dance culture—and it was powerful to watch its effects carry directly into their ballet classes.

I also had the chance to teach Qigong, a subtle and ancient form of energy medicine—where movement becomes medicine and dance becomes a portal into restoration.

Watching dancers discover a quieter, more nourishing way to care for their bodies was a reminder that longevity isn’t about training harder, but about learning how to soften and receive.
