20 years. A billion dollars. And a completed Van Wyck Expressway.
Think about what it takes to commit two decades and a billion dollars to building, expanding, and improving infrastructure that moves people through Queens.
Now imagine what could happen if we brought that same level of commitment, urgency, time, and financial investment to maternal health.
What if we dedicated those kinds of resources to making sure every family in Queens had access to quality prenatal care, midwifery-led birth options, doulas, infant feeding support, postpartum care, and the resources needed to thrive?
What if we treated maternal health as the critical infrastructure that it is?
Roads connect communities. But healthy mothers, healthy babies, and supported families sustain them.
At Birth By Queens, we believe a birth center can be part of the solution. But we also know it takes more than a building. It takes a community-wide investment, a commitment to addressing disparities, and the willingness to build an entirely different system of care.
If we can spend 20 years and a billion dollars transforming how people travel through Queens, imagine what we could accomplish by investing that same intentionality into how families experience pregnancy, birth, and life beyond it.
Queens deserves infrastructure that moves people forward AND infrastructure that helps families thrive.
The question isn't whether we can make the investment. We've seen what's possible when we decide something matters.
It's time to make maternal health matter just as much.
