Something to consider before we pop the new "exercise in a bottle" pill. Could this in turn demotivate people to stay physically fit and result in unforeseen negative consequences on our psychological and physical well-being? Thoughts? Would you take this?

The brain benefits of exercise may be linked to a single protein called “GPLD1.”

Research has shown that loneliness elicits similar neural responses as hunger: feelings of desire and craving. Amid the coronavirus pandemic that we are currently facing, those who are living alone are experiencing the highest levels of loneliness simply because they don't have anyone to physically interact with.

A lot of us have found ourselves eating a lot more than before because of lockdown. High levels of stress and anxiety, and just the notion of uncertainty is causing many of us to engage in stress eating.

The notion that loneliness triggers cravings similar to hunger demonstrates why being alone during lockdown can cause us to yearn for physical contact with others.

We understand that this crisis can have increasing effects on feelings of loneliness and we want you to know that we are here to support and help you.

People are starving for human contact. As the US approaches nearly one month since the coronavirus pandemic prompted Americans to isolate themselves from family and friends outside the home, many h…

Hi all,

We realize that we are living in an unprecedented time because of COVID-19 and many of us are feeling emotions such as anxiety, fear, worry, sadness, etc,. We would like to provide virtual group therapy sessions to anyone who would like to partake. Discussions will surround the topic of COVID-19 and how we can manage our emotions and feelings that surround it. Group therapy has been proven to be effective, especially when individuals are dealing with the same issue, therefore we believe that in a time like this, it can be extremely beneficial. The days/times that we will be holding the group therapy sessions will be based on what is best for the majority of people. Our goal is to help you with as much support and guidance as we can through this difficult time of uncertainty.

Please email Jennifer at [email protected] and Stephanie at [email protected] if interested. Everyone is welcome to join!

Best,
Private Practice Inc.

We have all felt the feeling of loneliness at once throughout our lives. As social animals, we have a need to connect to others, and without these connections we can find ourselves socially isolated. Research shows that feeling loneliness is kind of the same as enduring physical pain. It is not about the amount of people you’re surrounded with; some with an extensive network of friends feel lonely, while others with a few friends feel satisfied. Loneliness is not necessarily about being alone, you can be in a room full of people and still feel alone. Many factors can cause us to feel lonely, such as divorce, death, and moving to a new location. Feeling lonely can make you feel empty, unwanted, and alone and can affect your health in many ways. Studies show that there are health risks associated with feeling loneliness, such as increased stress levels, depression, decreased memory, antisocial behavior, poor decision-making, and alcoholism and drug abuse. ————————————— At Private Practice Inc, we are now offering group therapy sessions where we discuss topics such as loneliness and isolation. Individuals can benefit from group therapy if they are experiencing feelings such as loneliness and/or anxiety, etc,. Joining group therapy is known to help individuals develop skills to relate to others as well as allow individuals to listen to other people’s problems which can put your own into perspective. Rates are a flat $25, please contact Jennifer at [email protected] and Stephanie at [email protected] if you would like to join!

Sometimes we have trouble recalling people’s names, events, or thoughts. This trouble of recollection is due to the way thoughts are stored in our memory. Trauma, dementia, and stress can cause memory to decline over time.

Memory can be broken down into 3 stages: Encoding, storage, and retrieval.

Encoding: In order for us to store incoming information, they need to be changed into a form that our minds can cope with. There are three ways that information can be encoded in memory: visual (picture), acoustic (sound), and semantic (meaning).

Storage: Storage refers to where the information is stored and for how long it is stored.

Retrieval: Retrieval refers to the ability to remember things from memory. Sometimes when we are unable to recall something, it is because we cannot retrieve it.

There are many ways to help improve memory. These include getting enough sleep, practicing mindfulness, taking a fish oil supplement (if you aren’t allergic of course!), drinking less alcohol, and cutting down on refined carbs. Taking initiative towards these things will aid in memory retrieval. What are some steps you take that help you remember things?
