What’s something that you’ve learned in your 40s or 50s that you wish you’d known at 25?
For me…?
You don’t have to be a prison b***h to fear.
In my 20’s, 30’s and even 40’s, I lived my entire life in fear. My world shrunk to the size of a postage stamp. I refused to fly, was afraid to drive, wouldn’t leave the country and didn’t want to leave my kids at home with a sitter. I worried what others thought of me - including God. Life was a performance, and I was the STAR. ⭐️
Until I hit my breaking point. I had finally had enough. I decided that I wanted FREEDOM more than I wanted certainty. And I worked HARD for it.
Last week, I spent a couple of days traipsing around NYC - alone - and it hit me like a ton of bricks (okay, maybe not bricks, maybe…idk… happy little clouds?!). I did it!!! I pushed through to the other side.
I flew in an airplane (without Va**um), navigated the subway, took myself out to eat, walked the Brooklyn bridge, rode a bike in Central Park, took a ferry, walked through China town and I did it all ALONE, unmedicated and UNAFRAID. Not kidding when I say that this is sort of a miracle. Not sure my younger self would even believe who I am today. It didn’t come without a lot of hard work and determination, but it was SO worth it.
Damn, it was a fight. An all out brawl, at times. But when I realize where I am today, I sort of want to cheer for my younger self. ⭐️🌟💫❤️ I am so grateful to her for her courage and tenacity. She never gave up. And today, it shows.
