Most people move in one plane. Life doesn’t.
This band landmine simulation trains the diagonal pattern your thoracic spine uses every time you reach, swing, throw, or twist.

Phase 2: drive through rotation, finish arms high ↑

In today’s session, I observed a key weakness in the deep longitudinal system (DLS) of this Pilates practitioner. With a neutral spine, her DLS was under-engaged, and she overcompensated by bracing through the re**us abdominis, creating a posterior pelvic tilt. The DLS is a vital fascial line that stabilizes posture and powers efficient movement. By strengthening it, we enhance balance, reduce injury risk, and unlock functional power. Curious about your own strength patterns? Book a session and let’s discover what you can do!

Most “carpal tunnel” patterns I see in office workers aren’t just about the nerve—they’re driven by overactive thumb and intrinsic hand muscles.

This reel shows a few targeted stretches I use to downregulate flexor pollicis longus and the interossei, which are commonly over-recruited with prolonged typing and trackpad use.

Goal isn’t just mobility—it’s restoring balance so the wrist extensors and proximal stabilizers can do their job again.

Simple resets, but when paired with the right motor control work, they can significantly reduce tension and nerve-like symptoms.

Shoulder pain during workouts? It might NOT be your shoulder.

Had a patient with left shoulder pain during Turkish get-ups and pushing movements. At first glance, everything looked “strong”… but something felt off.

👉 His left shoulder kept hiking up
👉 Muscles tested strong… but only WITH that compensation

So we changed one thing:
We stopped the shoulder from cheating.

Suddenly…
❌ Strength dropped
❌ Control disappeared

That told us the truth:
His body wasn’t actually using the right system — it was relying on compensation.

We released the overworking muscle (upper trap)
Then re-activated the proper chain

Result:
✅ Better control
✅ Less shoulder hiking
✅ Immediate pain relief with pushing

Your body is smart — it will always find a way to get the job done.
But that doesn’t mean it’s doing it the right way.

If you’ve been stretching, strengthening, and still dealing with pain…
You might be training the compensation, not fixing the problem.

📩 DM me “SHOULDER” if this sounds like you and you want to figure out what your body is actually doing.

# # The 5 Movement Systems: Why Your Pain Might Not Be Where You Think

Have you been treating the same body part for months with little progress? Your pain might be coming from somewhere else entirely.

Understanding these five interconnected movement systems might explain why traditional treatments haven’t worked:

🔴 **Core System** - Your stability center that supports all movement

🟠 **Longitudinal System** - Connects feet to back, powers walking and running

🟢 **Lateral System** - Controls side-to-side balance and stability

🔵 **Posterior Oblique System** - Diagonal back connections for rotation and power

🟣 **Anterior Oblique System** - Front diagonal connections for coordinated movement

The key insight? Your back pain might come from your core system, not your back itself. Knee issues might originate in your longitudinal system rather than the knee.

This systems approach explains why treating only where it hurts often doesn’t solve persistent pain.

Curious which of your movement systems might be causing your discomfort?

Understanding health insurance terminology is key to getting the most out of your coverage. Key terms like deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and HSAs impact how much you pay out-of-pocket for care. Different plan types like HMOs, PPOs, and POS plans determine your provider network and referral requirements. Knowing the basics helps you pick the right plan and get the care you need!

Still suffering from back pain? 😫Check out ergonomic chairs recommended by occupational therapists! As an occupational therapist, I assess patients with shoulder, neck, and lower back muscle tension by understanding their office environment and lifestyle. This helps address root causes and improve symptoms.
For 8-hour workdays, a high-quality ergonomic office chair promotes correct posture. Here are some key elements to consider when selecting an ergonomic chair:
1️⃣Seat Height: Easily adjustable (16-21 inches) for feet flat on the floor, thighs horizontal, and arms aligned with the desk.
2️⃣Seat Width and Depth: Comfortable support (17-20 inches wide) with depth allowing 2-4 inches between knees and seat. Adjustable tilt desired.
3️⃣Lumbar Support: Vital for lower back; ergonomic chairs should offer adjustable lumbar support (height and depth) to maintain the inward curve of the lower back.
4️⃣Backrest: Width of 12-19 inches; adjustable in height, angle, and forward/backward angles to support the spine's natural curve, especially the lumbar region.
5️⃣Seat Material: Sufficient padding and breathable fabric (mesh) provide comfort during prolonged sitting.
6️⃣Armrests: Adjustable armrests enable comfortable arm and shoulder rest, ensuring forearms are not on the armrests while typing.
7️⃣Swivel: Effortless rotation for easy reach to different desk areas without straining.
🙋🏻‍♂️Upgrade your chair to improve posture and reduce discomfort. Invest in your well-being!
