🌟 Registration if now open for Finding Flight: A Return-to - Jumping Protocol for Dancers🌟

DMEI is launching this new collaborative specialty course series with Course 3: Return to Flight: Build the Spring, a course focused on dynamic load and the space between foundational preparation and plyometric work.

In ballet and modern/contemporary dance, return to jumping often calls for more than simply adding impact back in. It asks for thoughtful progression, careful observation, and stronger decision-making around readiness.

Designed for healthcare and movement professionals who support dancers in training & performance.

Co-presented by Andrea Zujko PT, DPT, OCS, COMT, Jennifer Milner NCPT, Marimba Gold-Watts NCPT, RCST and Wendy Reinert

🗓️ August 1st, 2026

📍NYC (location tbd)

📚CE approval pending for NCPT, NASM and NYPTA

At this weekend for Pilates on Tour! 🙌

and I, will be presenting and excerpt from our course, Movement Analysis & Retraining of the Dancer: Lower Quadrant on Saturday morning. ☀️

We’re focusing on two familiar pattern “clusters” as a clinical shortcut: the Tucker & the Tipper. Not as labels, and not as diagnoses, but as a way to quickly organize what you see and, choose interventions (exercises) that can help rebalance postural habits and non-optimal mvmt strategies with intention.

In the room, we’ll connect:

➡️ what you observe in standing, turnout, weight transfer and Plie/releve

➡️ the common strain drivers that show up affecting regions and structures up and down the chain

➡️ how to choose Pilates-based exercise options that match the movement problem.

The exercise menu we will be providing is a toolbox, not a script. The goal is integration into a comprehensive, individualized plan, not a short list of “magic exercises.”

Our workshop is sold out! Grateful, and excited to share the space with everyone who will be there! 👏🙏

Registration for our first 2026 DMEI Mentorship Monday is now open! 👏👏

Hosted by Andrea Zujko (Founder of DMEI) & Jennifer Milner (Founder, Bodies In:Motion), Mentorship Mondays are small, group led virtual sessions designed to keep you connected to the dance medicine community while sharpening clinical reasoning and real-world application. Each session features a focused theme to help guide discussion and case selection.

First theme: the pesky ankle - when a “stuck talus” limits ankle dorsiflexion (and everything upstream starts getting creative).

What to expect:

➡️ Zoom: 730-830 pm EST

➡️ Free with registration

➡️ Limited to 10 participants

➡️ Optional: submit a case or question on this topic in advance. Please submit your questions/cases to [email protected].

These sessions are open to healthcare and adjunct practitioners currently working in, or seeking to enter the field of dance medicine including PT’s, PTA’s, physicians, athletic trainers, dance educators, Pilates and Gyrotonic instructors and massage therapists.

To register, pls VISIT 🔗 in BiO > Mentorship Monday

We are looking forward to seeing you there!

DMEI Quick Takeaways- from my clinic week to yours. 😀

When a dancer reports an anterior/lateral ankle “pinch”
at the end-range of Plie, start by watching normal pronation mechanics. At the talocrural joint and subtalar joint, this presents as:

calcaneal eversion ➡️ talar PF/Add ➡️ Tibial IR

When one piece is missing, the system negotiates.

What to watch for:

➡️ Rearfoot access: does one side lack subtalar eversion as they approach end-range Plie?

➡️ Talus strategy: tibial timing may look “fine,” but impaired talar glide can show up as a medial ankle collapse (that “pinch” feeling lives here for a lot of dancers).

➡️ Downstream trade-off: limited rearfoot options can feed the medial column “seesaw” - midfoot/ first ray/hallux borrowing motion to get the job done.

🌟Clinical note: Confirm with hands-on testing before you commit to the story.

Your turn: What did you notice during this movement assessment? Feel free to comment. I’d love to hear from you.
